I bought these cranks and while the drive side is pretty fresh the other crank is showing its age. The ‘chrome?’ outer layer is flaking off revealing powdery oxidized pits. I don’t need it brand new but would like to clean it up a bit. Would sanding it down be an option?

The best thing would be to get them bead blasted or actually walnut hull blasted.
Honestly, it just makes them more cool. It’s cosmetic. Ride them.

It’ll be essentially impossible to get all the nooks by hand. I know because I’ve gone down this route.
NNNNOOOO NNNOOOO NNNOOO! Just use them. Tools, not jewels.
