In order to arrive to my job I ride mi bike rather public transportation… because multiple reasons, but putting a side that, where I live is not illegal riding without brakes but, not without helmet or any lights (reflectors works as well); I just added something else to that “secure equipment” which is my security chain.

A solid u-lock would be better than a cable lock if you’re planning to be out of sight from your bike.
otherwise as long as you’re having fun and people can see you, maybe some lights?, i think safety is about your own awareness and having presence on the road – do that to the best of your ability and the rest is out of your hands.

Nice for a beater bike! Do get a new lock tho. A Kryptonite chain or U-lock. I saw a lock similar to yours get snipped in 2 seconds outside my shop the other morning. I know your bike is quite unassuming but those cable locks are dogshit.
