I’ve been using an Aosom trailer I picked off Amazon for a few years and both of us have a blast. It is getting a little small, or rather, he’s getting a little big for it.
Any suggestions for a bigger child size trailer that won’t break the bank? We’d be mainly commuting on paved roads around a small town.

I bought a used Wike trailer a few years ago. When I was researching then it was the biggest trailer available.
Wike is a lot bigger but hard to find used. Maybe try a chariot as those are larger than standard and definitely larger than the one you are using.
If you can’t use a screen Id recommend some sort of glasses for the kid in back.
I had a Weehoo trailer across three kids. It’s a recumbent tag-a-long. So the kid can pedal too. My kids loved it. I did 1000s of miles on that.
I had one of those 3rd wheel rigs where my son could pedal. It worked great and was very stable.
Burley make some sturdy trailers that fit bigger kids. Assuming you’re in the UK?
Those thule trailers are great and big!
Ive got a Thule Coaster Xt. It can fit two big toddlers and a bit of cargo. There are some more expensive models, but in my experience they are heavier (and somewhat sturdier) and not quite as spacious.
That’s a big enough child to be on their own bike, surely?
I changed to a kids bike with the followme tandem. The kid can pedal or not. Trailers are only for smaller kids.
WeeHoo’s are great. It’s a recumbent bike trailer with pedals. More stable than a typical sit on top trailed bike. Used one for years until my kid outgrew it.
I’ve got a Thuie charriot, it’s expensive but quality.
