Picked up these three bikes from a lovely old guy. In his 80s and given up cycling. He had the pair of Rotrax custom built for him and his wife, originally as drop bar tourers. He travelled all over England and even into France with her. I didn’t like to pry but I got the impression she is no longer alive. Lovely chap and he had a tear in his eye as I drove away. I promised to fix them up and give them a new lease of life I will probably keep the big Rotrax which is the perfect size for me but it would be a shame to split the pair so I may have to keep that too. 😀
So today I just met a lovely gentleman by the name of John and he was selling these two beauties um they were handmade for him in Southampton uh as a pair for him and his wife that’s a smaller one there both road tracks which is a local
Was a local Southampton maker all built with good old 531 design select it says there so clearly that means I guess that the tubes were supplied raw to the makers this one uh his wife’s has uh the Shimano Golden Arrow group set which is rather nice I don’t think that’s the
Cranks uh nice Mitchy uh pedals on there as well uh both come with mavic Wheel sets 700 see on Mad hubs uh Brook saddle on his wife’s interesting little um I guess that’s a saddle bag uh R rack on the back there uh wian Center PS on both of them obviously uh
They were matched for a lot of the kit uh road tracks um not a make you see very often but uh he’s uh replaced the cranks with strong light on his um Suntour AR and not sure of the rear Mech on that but again the mavic Mard wheel collection there and uh obviously
His seat um I think has bit in the dust somewhere and there’s some horrible seat on there and these um CIS index um old um Shimano shifters sixspeed 3×6 uh apparently that one isn’t working but while I was there he um had this other bike that uh he just wanted me to
Take away which is a uh falcan um and again it’s um 531 so shopping like went skirts couldn’t ride the other bike but uh uh make I can make this up again into a nice shopping bike for someone and uh I’m sure uh it’ll have a new life with some student or someone
Locally but uh great find there and uh I’m going to have great fun making those up
