Apparently there are no banks in Nuneaton and nowhere to spend money.

TODAY’S SUBJECT is a reaction to two comments that were put on my previous video about Nuneaton, being a great place to live.
I have not named the people who commented, and I do not want to embarrass them but one said that ‘all the banks are closed in Nuneaton’, and the other one said that ‘you couldn’t buy anything in Nuneaton, and it was a horrid place, and I need to open my eyes.’ So I opened my eyes and walked round Nuneaton to see where I could spend my money and see if I could find a bank or building society that was open. With a huge dollop of irony, I found lots of places that you can spend a fortune and do your banking.

I am retired from two careers of primary school teaching when I was deputy head of a Middle School and Primary School, and as a self employed Chalkboard Artist from 2002 until I reached the grand old age of 65 in 2016. Since I retired it’s like a second childhood but with more expensive toys.

I play guitar and write songs and have written about 14 songs for the local BBC radio station. I run a weekly (weakly) evening Acoustic session at a local pub and have been doing so for 14 years now. [Applause] Good morning it’s John Neil here it’s Tuesday the 9th of uh January 2024 and join me while I unpop a can of worms and disappear down a rabbit hole in a follow up to the video I did about whyne N is a great place to Live well as you can see it’s a beautiful bright day and quite chilly too um I hope the wind doesn’t interfere with this too much but the audio is another story come about later meanwhile as I’m out my way through town three things I’m going to talk about one apparently somebody

Commented that there is a mile long uh queue of traffic trying to get out of town I know have to open my eyes well that didn’t really happen secondly all the banks are shut and there’s nowhere to buy anything okay so all the banks are shut

So I have to have I look around and see if I can find one that’s open excuse me are any banks open anywhere well apparently all the banks are shut so um I’ve just walked over the road to see if there’s any more um any more open anywhere excuse me uh is there

A bank open anywhere I wonder if um I can find any building societies it’s uh good try excuse me do you know if there’s any building societies around here I’m still struggling to find a Bank open in the ne I can’t see them anywhere cuz apparently they’re all shut somebody

Said so um excuse me is there a bank anywhere that’s open no no well excuse me there any building societies around here you know what well apparently all the banks have closed down there aren’t any open so there’s nowhere to do any banking anymore and uh if only there’s a place

That would just handle all the banking details you know where you could pay checks in and sort your money out you know just a central place that did all the banks that’d be good wonder where that might do there excuse me um where can I do banking with all different banks any

Idea it’ be nice if there were some independent sort of shops that specialize in certain things so I have to have a look see if I’m find anything and uh it’s a Pity there’s no uh men’s shops you know for men’s clothes independent men’s clothes that’d be good

Know something’s been around for a long time wonder if I can find one of them anywhere just going have a look men’s clothes shops I just no nowhere so I tell you what might be nice would be uh a chocolate shop I yet there was a chocolate shop somewhere apparently since there’s no

Way to buy anything you’d think there’d be uh you know some of the big chains would be around like Smiths and that there’s no hope at all of uh a specialist Bookshop like Cy where are we we’re not in sort of Posh North London are we so there’s not going to be none

Of those anywhere no there’s just no banks I can’t see any building societies there’s nothing and a jewelry shop would be good yeah some nice little jewelry shops which just you can’t buy anything in town you can’t it’s terrible well since all the banks have closed and there’s nowhere to buy

Anything thing as the comment say then what’s left but just a watch the pigeons it’s really haunting me now there’s just nowhere in thean to buy anything it’s Terrible it’s terrible just nowhere to buy anything got all this money on me and I can’t spend it cuz there’s nowhere to buy anything well I’m still looking for somewhere to buy something I got some nice jewelry good oh look poundland and uh We’ve also got boots here I think you

Can buy things in Boots I have to admit you can buy things in Boots now what’s the chance of something a little bit Niche you know for the vegans and your health freaks you know somewhere like Holland and Barrett I mean that would be out the question wouldn’t

It Holland and Barrett anywhere around here oh now I’m back in the car I can tell you a story two reasons to get back in the car one it’s a bit warmer cuz it’s very very cold out there it’s about one degree um secondly there is no wind this is relevant really

Because um the the way I do the audio with these videos is usually with a little audio recorder and there’s a clip on microphone on my lapel but unfortunately on the last trip out um it just wasn’t working properly where you put the microphone into the recorder it was loose and clicking and

Making a horrible noise so uh it was useless the the Audio I was getting was absolutely no good at all so um I thought well what can I do and I had a look I bought it off Amazon last March that’s 10 months ago and I thought well there should be

Some guarantee for 12 months from the manufacturer so I got back to Sony and I managed to ring up Sony in London I had to do it twice because the phone went down once so I was ringing them up for half an hour so that was costing me and

They were very helpful in a way they were saying oh let’s put this in pull it out try something else do this that what what model number is it let me check your order let Che all this stuff went off a half an hour trying to get to the

Bottom of how it can be fixed and in the end it really did offered no solution um so he said we’ll just go back to the person who sold it to you well on Amazon it’s not necessarily Amazon that sell it to you it’s somebody

Else sells it to them or gives them and sells it on and so I couldn’t get back to the original seller so I just got through to Amazon Here’s the Clincher what happens was this the uh on the website for Amazon you click on the thing that says contact

Us so I clicked on it it then says we will ring you click here is this your number I thought well that looks good so I clicked on that within 10 seconds the phone went it was Amazon that is customer service for you but there’s

More I said look I’ve got this uh audio recorder from Sony bought it black last March he checked the um the computer and the yeah yeah yeah we see you did that yeah and I says but it’s not working it’s certain got a terrible click on it and I can’t sort it

Out we’ll give you the money back that was it no I had this long explanation as how it didn’t work and how I was going to explain to him why it didn’t work and it was working and blahy blahy blah I didn’t even go into it he

Just stopped and said we’ll give you the money back and you can send it back to us I thought well this can’t get any better can it it can because then they immediately emailed me a label for the post office to pick it up from my front door and that all happened

Yesterday the old one is going back being picked up from my front door at no cost to me by the post office and the new one which I bought again because it was fine um when it worked uh is uh I ordered it yesterday and it’s being delivered today you might wonder why

The High Street is evolving the way it is now how else could I have solved this problem other than going to one of the big stores like Cur is an electrical store uh which is probably in Coventry there used to be one and in it’s gone uh

So all this about you know stores closing down is quite true and all I can say in the end is um yeah and now yeah I would have to have gone into cantry and drive 10 miles to go to the store to either buy a new one or swap it or would

They do it I don’t know whereas in within about a minute talking to Amazon it’s been sorted the High Street is changing it’s it’s evolving into something new I don’t know what it’s going to be um I hope that the shops where you have to go in

When you want to go in Will Survive but the way things are the online uh service that you can can get from some of the customers from some of the retailers like Amazon is absolutely excellent and it’s going to take a lot of beating so there you are Nan is a great

Place to to live in despite all the other stuff I I bet there’s some more comments saying how rubbish it is there’s no Bank which is’s nowhere to to buy anything that was just Priceless and and I’m sorry I took the bait on that um why is it that people like to knock

Their own Hometown and why is it that people like to make such outrageous statements in social media when they’re just slightly crazy anyway that’s it you’ll see me next time okay bye-bye
