Running through the heart of West Yorkshire is the m62 a 40m stretch of this Motorway links the major cities of Bradford Leeds and Manchester PC’s Chris Spencer and Mike Row are on patrol yeah we’re just coming south they’re heading up to saddleworth Moore 20 mi Southwest of Bradford where

The motorway cuts across the penines separating Yorkshire from Lancashire at 372 m above sea level it’s the highest stretch of Motorway in the UK it’s Chris driving today but it’s not always that way apparently I never let him drive so I’ve just fought a b let him have a go keep him on

Side the best way to describe work with Mike is it’s a marriage we have our ups and downs if you wer talking it’ be murder wouldn’t it if you would just sat there watching your clock go by you’d be it’d be a long day so if you get on with

A person you’re working with it’s fantastic and we get on our right me and Chris the motorway cops check passing number plates for valid insurance nearly 2 a half thousand uninsured vehicles are seized by police each week in the UK um that GTI is not inured anywhere there yeah be

Careful hello mate how’s it going not too bad just jump out cow us have you got any docks with you no at all jump out how long you car all right have a seat what it the driver claims the car is insured on a family trade policy we’ve got a

Shopping leads basically we have like we’re allowed up to five cars on the policy yeah yeah but I don’t know if this might be showing on the mid because I’ve only just bought the car right what’s your name then mate Mohammed Sak Khan what company is it

With then the I’m not sure you know that we go through a broker we do all right what broke do you go through it’s uh estate agent we go through know opposite our shop there’s an estate agent and basically he gets our insurance for us so he’s an estate agent

Who deals in car insurance he just car insurance is an All State Agent to win Insurance on a sideline it sounds D but in Bradford anything’s possible what about such going now no yeah I’m going to airport to pick my M up I supposed to pick him up after he’s coming from

Morocco he’s married there in it and he had a bit of a domestic and his quick Vis well he’s gone he only went for like 3 days but to sort his marriage out you could tell that he was really nice lad and it it came across as quite a character

Straight away hello Chris calls to check Muhammad’s Insurance while he waits on the line Muhammad’s mates keep the cops amused what’s FY doing it back here sty wonder is it finally Chris’s call is answered good afternoon please help there’s the roadside check we you please it’s 2561 just

Routine all right right easy peasy M made unfortunately it’s bad news um because no one’s added it to the policy in shed all right with no insurance Muhammad’s car will now have to be confiscated every day around 14 45,000 vehicles used the West Yorkshire section of the

M62 finding law Breakers here means the cop a report comes in about a van that needs checking out go ahead hey I we received um a call providing the vrm of this vehicle now it says that it’s got bobbins of electric cable it’s heading towards pchb from

Calon yeah sa well try and catch it up it’s on this road heading to W pontif frat we’re just trying to catch up to it and we can have a look at this cable that’s allegedly in the back of it theft of copper cable alone is estimated to cost the British economy1

Billion a year your phone lines might go down your electricity might go down all because people are taking these C cables away but finding a white van can be trickier than you think tempted to go left 80 from 85 Ed you coming from Town Center yeah I’m coming up H now we’ll go left then down towards Aqua if it’s gone that way it is good oldfashioned cat of mouse we’ve been given something to go and look for um so we’ll go and look for it but it’s a massive massive area

Yeah we Saed we’re all the way up into Ponte and uh 85 come from Ponty direction we’re just uh head back down toward P away even with every available car in the hunt the search draws a blank no they be anywhere any it might be that

Has gone off on down a side Ro or it might have you know 10 left at the junction we just don’t know but just half an hour later their luck changes touch wood on K8 kmf that’s that van chances of that has it just pulled

Up well be old um is this van ped on on the on the road in in the nottingley area we just stumbled on it really it was just a bit of a stroke look might you move hey up [ __ ] he it’s yours oh is it nice one what’s your name

Then Steve Steve have you got your docks on you got T it in our car yeah just hop in back right buddy how’s it going has my colleague explained while we’ve stopped you no right we’ve had a report that um you’ve got some cable in it back of

Your van no check it there’s nothing in back absolutely nothing at all right no worries he did have a bit of a nervous look there were there was something that was going to be not quite right with this one right from the uh right from the Start on the m62 near saddleworth Mo Chris and Mike are dealing with an uninsured driver and his mates traveling from Bradford to Manchester Airport did you see that guy take a picture from there so he’s going to fall box up that with the m that’s waiting say look

Because I already uh made an excuse and there’s loads of traffic but the cops have some bad news what’s going happen there mmed car’s going to get taken you can get it back no problems but you have to go to the police station with your documents proof of ownership and it’s

Going to have to be legitimately insured all right sometimes at this point this is where the people who’ have been your mate can suddenly not be your mate we’ve had all sorts all people who just go totally berserking back a car all shouting swearing and then others have

Just taken it on chin of course I’m gooded man especially when you pay 495 grand for a policy and you know what the worst thing is I’ve had done I’ve had this problem with him before and had a big carry on with him and they did a big

Fight with the guy outside his estate agent my policy is running out on the 18th I think of this month and that’s it my dad said we’re not going with this guy again man my M’s going to drive your car then up to 22 yeah then you guys

Have to get a lift back up from there right just sit back for his M and stick as your belt on there how’s it going whoever this broker is we got this a state agent guy I’m for putting it on his policy so they’re saying they’re not

Insuring him no straight up not kidding you these two Lads in car they were both just like him just really sort of friendly and want to know everything about everything and they were good Lads sh be like me Mohammed calls his friend waiting for a lift at the airport to give him the bad news hello bro you mother saw a lift out my car has been compound has been recovered I’m stting back at the police car bro I’m on Junction over here I need

To get soon to pick me up first night now I’m just sat in the driver’s seat trying not to laugh at the conversation he’s having with his friend he stood at the airport on his own he’s stranded there now bro get on the bus bro I’m on L you

I’m in stting back at the police car driving down the mway there’s another police officer driving my car youing Baba up and you ask him you don’t believe man once off the motorway the cops can drop their passengers off it’s going to be cold so yourself they’re on top of saddleworth

Mo but this doesn’t seem to lower the loud spirits come man yeah there’s a key come let’s in spite of their car being impounded The Lads from Bradford have taken a shine to their local cops this is probably one of the best ever responses we’ve had to taking someone’s

Car off them I’d be devastated if this were me and these Lads just seem like all they want to do is have a laugh with us you sit car oh till it till it gets recovered yeah till it gets recovered and then you have to go you s with come on we

Going he just said right what do you think is going to be happening with these three when he finds out he’s not inured I would have never said oh we’re going to be having a chinwag with them and loads of loads of photo opportunities and they’re going to be

Telling all the mates about it for ages and the cops even know some of the passengers friends M oh yeah where he’s alone he yeah I hav’t seen him in ages I know a couple of them from um from Bradford and the kid who was coming to pick him up I

Know him as well these Lads are all right AR they they know score oh man all over Facebook now bless him this is fantastic Chris and Mike decide to wait with their new found friends for a recovery vehicle to arrive 20 mi West along the m62 PC’s

Andrew Cox and Mark Claxton are turning out of their base in South Bradford have you got wrong number mate you look like a poor relations to The Blues Brothers oh that’s good thank you and you if anybody give me a compliment it’d be you thank you every so much we’ll go out in a happy note Now it’s 400 p.m. and they head into the city as Rush Hour approaches at this time of the day the roads are busy it’s a time when even illegal drivers May chance using the roads I always say that we’re we’re between a rock and a hard place Um some people look up to us and there are those that think that we shouldn’t be there but anybody that is legal who has nothing to hide I don’t think I genuinely bothered that they are stopped oh MLT expired 22nd November what this in for hello there you all right just jumping

That car 2 minutes you all right you should have a oh yeah you’re all right there’s a little problem with your vehicle in that your mot expired last month okay thanks for informing me that what’s your name Sarah Burns right is it your car yeah right bought it off

A friend right when did you buy it um about three four month three four a month now right stay at it’s awful Isn’t it I need a new one it expired on the 22nd of last month did it well I’ll have to go get that done like no I didn’t

Actually know I did not have a clue yeah cuz obviously you can’t drive it on the road without one I didn’t know that well I did obviously know that but I didn’t know it run out of MOT I would say well in excess of 90% of the people that you

Sto and informed that their mot is expired It’s News to them it’ll be shock gas my colleagues going to deal with it by way of a fixed penalty ticket you don’t get any points are out on your license I don’t no no points but you do

Get a fine I’m afraid I’ve just had a fine and another how much is a fine for it’s £100 so that’s £200 now what’s your other filling me now same road this Road’s unlucky I’m not coming home this way again what what was your other f for

Um speeding oh are you a habitual offend offender then no this is It’s just must be a bad week for me I really have never I never get pulled I never get no and then week I get another1 F now I get another you shouldn’t have stopped you

Should have just like told me off she’s taking a good sh really I mean you know a lot of people will be and you got note better to do um why don’t you catch some real criminals just because I’m driving along with noot but when your wheel

Comes off and you mount the pavement and clout a bus stop where two or three people are standing it’s a little bit of a different story it’s a good job it’s pday on CH is it cuz it’s going on to counsil they have fun spending me200 I

Can’t it was one of them things where she was just quite a talkative quite a nice class I went to get it all like all SED other day and um all like all sorted no someone kept flashing on it so I got a new timing belt and that put on it all

Right so I should have known it were out of MOT and got it all done at once same time yeah I didn’t know the told when I obviously got it they said it it’s tax and mot so what when you got it on now

Cox a little bit of a a comedian on the shift he he’s very light-hearted and good spirited didn’t tends to uh make us all chuckle Sarah cuz we’re professional police and stuff I tell you you’re going to be reported for using your vehicle with no M it’s very easy to become

Skeptical in our job you have to have a laugh because if you don’t I think you you probably would crack upid you comply with the fixed penalty I pay the fine within 28 Days end the story’ll get it on Tuesday when I get paid you got with

With you with your name on um no just um my phone charging me and me Sig but they might be me id door right well I’ll come back with you all right I’ll give you that but I’ll come back and see your I go get in my car now yeah but don’t get

Run over I will don’t drive off yet till I’ve come I all right Sarah doesn’t have any ID in the car but she does have her name printed on a prescription let me see what it says on it no on the and it’s good enough for coxy

There’s no need for youwe God right hang you see you she’s quite a toped type of character like a whirlwind I actually feel a bit Dizzy third 30 m east back in nottingley Matt and Debbie have found the van they were looking for in relation to the cable theft the information that we’ve got is that somebody’s loading bits of cable into the back for all we know uh it could be the electricity board

Loading their cable into the back ready to go home for the day no wire in there there was obviously no cable in there and that’s when we start to have to question a little bit further and get into his ribs a little bit see what we

Can find out have you got your license for you sorry now are you insur to drive it yeah I should be on on the insurance or for this friend of should be through my friends yeah theyve just drove is it I don’t know they just asked me to drive

It where have they gone where they g g that way all I know it’s just one of the lads I know called John he thinks he’s insured his friends insured him and then who are your friends oh you know Mr Smith hang on a minute you you’re are lying are you know

To police yeah am yeah right when were you last in a couple of days ago what far burglary burglar right but I got bailed for it anyway so right it’s over as it happens Kila Tango 08 Kila M fox Tru we’re with it now on um racka green

Up at nottingley can you just uh Bob it through an insurance check shows Steven is not covered where have you been today where have I been yeah I’ve just come from col me have you got like license yeah full license I’ve got an American license just come back from

States right where have you got your license for yet you got a UK license i’t got full UK license I’ve got so you’re not entitled to drive that then if you got you right at that point you thinking well what else has he done you know were

Just the the very tip of of what this character had been up to it’s like putting a jigsaw puzzle together really most if not all of the pieces will be there and it’s just a case of locating them supposed to taking it back to drop it off that’s all I know unlike the

Friendly Lads on the motorway Matt and Debbie are getting a less Cooperative reception from their suspect Steven right taking it back where where it’s I don’t know where have you come from today a little backup will help I think it’s a bit of a team Dynamic we’ve got going on everybody

Knows what part they’ve got to play the cops need to find out more about the men Steven says he was with yeah it’s not somebody thinks oh I need some money and I’ll go out and steal some cable it tends to be organized criminality so was his the van

Then it honestly John’s van that’s oh John who just one lad I I was at home and they come pick me up ask me if I can drive the van what time did they pick you up about an hour ago bollocks maybe longer I know that’s a lie that is the

Truth I’m not what who’s John what’s his surname I all I know him is John that is it I’m just come out of fing jail last you need to start coming up with some names that is the truth manate that’s his name John come on there is an

Element of good cop bad cop to it um but I’m not here for people to like me I’m here to to get to the bottom of things please don’t me m and d everything will fall out on me going presss I’ll do whatever you want me to I swear to you

I’ve done nothing wrong I haven’t stole I swear don’t but that’s what every Thief says with Steven refusing to name names Matt look for more evidence in the van there’s a problem with the tax disc that’s good you’d never noticed would you it’s been altered it’s not from this

Vehicle and it’s on false plates I think it’s stolen we’re just running the VIN number through the police computer to see what the actual real vehicle is 4 5808 85 12 stilling a Burg away from royon vory Mercedes P white it comes back to but who would have thought it you’re

Under arrest and that’s nied right buddy you’re locked off bagy do you understand the cops have what they need to arrest Steven but there’s still no trace of the men he was with how long’s that been there why window dring a nearby car looks like it was abandoned in a hurry

Steven’s friends could still be in the area among the Gathering bystanders we’re right next door to The Bookies which there could be people in there there’s people coming out from the pub over the road just to have an noidea what’s happened from one little van that we’ve been looking for it soon snowballs

Into you know half an estate is involved there quite a few people taking interest over at Pub to see if we can get him to Point him out to us is it one of these no no how old can you lean forward is it that lad that’s what about him there cream kite

On Well’s busiest bookies all of a sudden it’s not going to be old lad on end is it what about him when all said and done that’s a stalling van that you’ve been toted down and they don’t want to come back to this Focus for some reason pleas he’s

Under arrest at minute cuz that was stering actually in a bagy um back in March end of March time so yeah uh good result in the end how’ you end up getting mixed up with this lot then this is what I mean I don’t know I want out

Of it you know what I mean I can feel a certain amount of sympathy for him obviously he has got mixed in with the one crowd and and he’s struggling to get away from it I don’t think the others are here anymore do you want to

Get him out of here get him taken in yeah come on then old [ __ ] let’s put you in this other car with no sign of his friends Matt and Debbie take their man to the station on the m62 Chris Spencer and Mike Row are still waiting for their

Uninsured driver’s car to be towed and they’re not the only ones left hanging around y a just got attacked now that’s I Whata all These officer some CHR packet for you oh you a St oh yes oh discos as well I love these I’ve never known anybody be so pleased about getting some free Discos I think it’s safe to say that you don’t get many gifts when you’re taking someone’s car off them you’re not generally thanked for doing that Muhammad’s car is finally on the way to the pound leaving them out in the Cold is it if all you going to be worth turning but it was absolutely freezing up there that day leaving them stood down in a t-shirt I don’t think that’s really the way to go when they’ve been so nice to us there it’s no skin

Off my teth just to sit there for an extra 10 minutes waiting M even given up his seat yeah all three we straight shots do you get me do you get it that’s it how much you going to regret that as a cop you’ve got to be able to

Talk to people and if they wer to have a laugh with me then it makes my life easy so I’ll quite quite happily sit have a chat and have a laugh with him you may be on the wrong side of the law but there’s no need to be on the wrong side

Of us should I tell you what I said to these two when you draw past year they always pull go and out this cuz they said it on tell her that one the offices we always tend to go you know what really went on he said I just see a car

Pass and SE I’m sure I know one of them Lads from Bradford let’s give it a tug and see what’s going on where they’re going what they up to off to airport to pick someone up guess what it’s free Bradford Lads there you go and I even

Said oh yeah I know where you live on fagle yeah to tell you what house it is as well At Last their lift arrives he’s Here see just just back up here and back on to Motorway all right take care Lads w’t you see you later go man and they’re on their way to pick up their mate from the airport or so they think he’s going wrong way he’s so desperate to impresses with how

Loud car is he goes wrong way fantastic oh dear so he’s only got another five miles toing turn around let’s get out of it it is crazy out Here as night and traffic flows fall policing one of Europe’s busiest motorways often becomes more about keeping motorists speed in check than checking if their cars are legitimate Motorway cup Mark Claxton is now riding with PC Lindsay pickles they’re on the lookout for road traffic offenses unlike the patrol car presence

Needed in the cities these Motorway cops have a special weapon in the fight against speeding inter city drivers an unmarked car beaut of the unmar carriage that you catch unsuspecting people um committing offenses that put your average driver who were trying to get from A to B safely um in

Jeopardy a car passes them at high speed just uh traveling behind this Volvo at a constant uh safe distance from it really probably about uh 8 car and monitoring his speed and he’s traveling constantly or has been traveling constantly in excess of uh 90 mph on the motorway I mean you’re

Talking about excess speeds anyway at 70 M hour to be exceeding that speed up to 90 mph there’s no way that you’re going to be able to react and stop to anything that happens in front of you interestingly enough we just passed a sign there that um advising a the

Workforce in the road ahead 40 m hour and he continued accelerating at 90 until we’ve got to this point here where we’ve got two lane closes ahead obviously now it’s going to go down to one lane so and another car has pulled out in front of us because of

That so slow we’ll wait until the road works are finished and it’s back open again so that it’s safe to be able to stop him speeding is one of the most common causes of accidents on Britain’s motorways let see what it does now speed that we’re doing now is um 98

99 yep 99 mph and he’s ahead of us and uh and he’s is basically accelerating away from us as well so it’s continuous speed we’re now 100 mph he’s getting faster and faster um there’s no light up in it and it’s just putting other people at danger really so it needs to be

Stopped when now going to stop him we do have to catch them first and obviously then we’re putting our lives and other members of public lives at risk as well on the motorway doing those speeds as the driver in front attempts to pull over he doesn’t notice a car

Broken down in the hard shoulder until it’s almost too late Oh shows uh how dangerous it can be stopping on their hard shoulder he hit that car that would have been wipe out wipe out for Them hello we just close door so we can hear you you first I’m going a caution you don’t have to say anything make mam defense if you do not mention when question something which will trying to CAU anything you do say maybe given evidence have you any idea why we’ve

Asked you to stop I think I was speeding you think you were speeding right is your speedometer working correctly in your vehicle I think it is yeah you think it is right what’s the speed limit on the motorway it might be a d question M hour so what sort of speed do you

Think you were doing 090 8090 and the rest the impression I got of of him is that he didn’t understand really what why why we wanting to speak speak to him you speed is is is between 90 and 95 mph all the time however as you came across the

Bridge and up the hill just probably to stoping you the reason we decided to stop you was because your speeds were getting so great that you were actually exceeding 100 mph is there any reason why you were speeding well I’ve just finished a clinic in Manchester and trying to get

To Juber to drop something off so right uh no excuse to be honest with you I didn’t realize I was doing 100 miles hour in all F right what sorry what what job what job is it doctor right so obviously you should be fully aware of the consequences of of speeding on the

Motorway um when he explained to us that he was going from one hospital to another being a doctor I assume being in casualty and seeing uh the results of uh collisions so you would think that that might uh go through his mind when uh when he is traveling at those

Speeds do you have any points on your license at all no going over the spe spe limit may be out of character for the driver but it’s nothing new for the cops everyone from every kind of Walk of Life in every kind of vehicle that you can probably imagine all educations and

People with every kind of job you can imagine and all with a different agenda on the mind um all going from A to B and and doing it also very differently right the way I intend to deal with this is by way of what we call a traffic offense

Report you will get a letter through the post explaining um what you need to do um I would suspect at this speeds that you’re doing that you will be um offered a conditional three points And1 fine the main thing is I’m not going to let to you anymore just please please slow down

And get to where you’re going safely I the problem is that you forget where you are to be honest with you you know I’ve just finished a clinic I’m trying to get back and then you find yourself hurrying but there’s no excuse to be honest with

You you know just I I work in a hospital and I see the accidents all the time so I can appreciate that but you know it’s that mentality of I’m in a V vle my doors are closed my windows are up I’m in my own little safe

Space um other things on the mind and they forget when it goes wrong you can’t turn back the clock I can tell you that’s not my normal speed in all fness you know I have no points on my license so it’s not my normal speed I don’t usually speed like that the biggest

Thing that people don’t like is being criticized about the driving everybody’s a good safe competent driver in their mind everybody’s aware of Hazards everybody’s able to avoid them um unfortunately that’s untrue they’re not we deal with incidents every day where people get it wrong obviously he’s a doctor and and on

That day he was doing a job and and I think probably um that was on his mind and I don’t think he’s intentionally um thought I’m I’m going to go over the speed limit because I can and I need to get there I think it’s

Just been a case of um May had a a bit of a a lapse of Concentration it’s 900 p.m. and after dealing with the Bradford Lads they stopped on the motorway pcc’s mik Ro and Chris Spencer are leaving the m62 returning to base in the city at the end of a long shift if I bought a brand new car might have very little options on it like yours

And PS they go so far don’t they yeah every brand new K stop in Bradford’s got every option you can possibly imagine on it even really pointless op never going to use that’s obviously on it just because it were an option but just before they took in for the night we

Were chatting about something totally irrelevant and see a car and think just don’t look right the driver cuts his headlights and turns down a residential street M of times I’ve chased cars where they’ve turned the lights off at night as if it’s some invisibility cloak he clearly W hanging around there

So that makes me thinking what is he I did this driver is not so Keen to hang out with the cops it’s quite a notorious area in Bradford there are quite a few chases around that area at various times of day and night uh clear left clear while Mike drives Chris calls in

Their location angle 51 we’re currently Kensington Street we’ve got a vehicle failling to stop it’s a uh Volkswagen Golf there’s no vrm could request Tac double crw in Su little vehicle speed’s currently 3 miles hour oh God we’re going to bom out it’s not the easiest Caring World to

Get round streets with all these speed bumps Alleyway is a tight the c a double P it is extremely built up area we’re now right right onto cers Road stand by be l Road 51 we’re onto Squire Lane now uh left left onto Squire Lane back

Towards Hon Road there are still a lot of people around it shouldn’t be happening this 51 that’s 30 yes yes on l Road now we got a right right on to uh Birch Road speed is still 30 0 milph we’re back towards Thon road now

We go around the same sort of block and in the end that’s his downfall doing loots around the state is given us us chance to get other people to where we need them to be left left onto St l Road Again St l one car overshoots judge it you just come too

Past there but another is waiting there’s no way out the Car mounts the pavement as the driver makes a desperate bid to escape the guy’s still trying to get away at that point in time we thinking oh my God Chris leaps out with the glass hammer in

Hand I’ve just smashed every window as I’ve gone around as best I can to distract that driver I still don’t know if he’s got some weapon on him the best thing to do is scream at show at him on the floor it’s almost a shock and all tactic

Behind behind why your back now Now you all right spner uh no sit there sit still St M Phil we’ll find out what the score is now I imagine there going to be some drugs in a but we’ll have a look and we’ll see I mean CRA Craig and Spanish SM out

Windows I know got all in my fingers you yeah three bags of weed last year cannabis possession accounted for 34s of all drug offenses but before they can make a more thorough search a new problem emerges the commotion has brought out the locals here around here we’re doing our

Business here you don’t need to be here so back move get back get back as a police officer you’ve always got to be on guard you’ve always got to be wary the crowd of almost 50 don’t seem aggressive but first impressions can change in a flash in the 14 years since the Bradford

Riots community policing on streets like these has helped dispel the tensions of the past but even so there’s still a fine balance between fighting crime and keeping the peace look how many people are about what time is it4 9 it would be classed as a high crime area and people will support other

People that live in that area there’s such a crown going this could sparing something more than needs to be now there’s a lot more of them than there is us so best thing we’re going to do we just moved his car now somewhere else we a good search somewhere else just

J this is extremely common you you end up chasing somebody there’s always always somebody there watching you and that could have been two in morning and all those people would still have been there how the cops act now could be crucial in maintaining Order 12 mil away east of leads PC’s Dale Brown and Dan kellet are heading out from their City Base to the M1 the weather’s closing in visibility is poor giving an edge to the criminals our customers like this type of weather cuz they can mulch around in the shadows

And if they were to be chased away it makes it easy for them to hide before they reach the motorway a report comes in about a suspect drink driver in a supermarket car park off the lead’s Ring Road Silver Carter yke 705 EO received we go to collisions on a daily

Basis uh involving drink drivers and occasions we have to go around and knock on people’s doors and let them know that their loved ones been killed in West Yorkshire alone there were over 2,000 arrests for drink driving offenses in 2013 this day and age there’s absolutely no excuse to drink and drive somebody’s

Found up legend that there’s some people in a silver car and that they uh may have had uh something to drink see just a case of trying to find it without letting them know that we’re here cuz it’s easy to get them driving then it is uh backed up if in a mar

Cary stand out like a bisha beacon the idea was to park up in there out of sight and just have a look into the car park to see if uh if the vehicle’s still there if we drive up toor we’re going to do is spoke them and

They’ll just stay there then you get a drunk in charge which doesn’t carry any weight with CPS best evidence at week in house for drink driving is driving there’s a silver corer right up there with doors open is a lad Milling B where there’s waiting for somebody they

Just killing a bit of time God knows but uh I’m getting prickled to death on this bush fortunately by the prickly Bush was the best view of the car is it going yeah coming towards towards he’s coming towards us with without his lights on which is sometimes some one of the

Signs that somebody’s had something it’s good enough how much you want to drink no no we got casy right you yeah he’s not alone how are we all all right how are you I’m very well a very very strong smell of intoxicants coming from the car but

Whether that’s him or the passengers uh time will tell but uh he’s got no rent anyway so if he is sober he’s got no tax where’s your tax my insurance company said I can drive it if I’m going to get it taxed is this to deep yeah to deep sing

Pan yeah how much have you had to drink to deep uh last drink was about 11:00 Tandy may not appear drunk but his mates clearly are you ke to get up no you might want to go pick that broken glass up that you just smashed I drop it

Yes you did I suggest you pick it Up you’re not having the keys either no not because you want to go she just wants to go it’s no crime for a passenger to be drunk but it is a distraction it’s the driver Dale and Dan have to concentrate on when you saw us Tandy why have you turned down here when

You were already when you exiting no I was coming back to Tes oh yeah oh yeah yeah okay why don’t you have your lights on they were on no they weren’t my lights were on oh no wer no they weren’t how old are you 19 right turny youy driving vehicle now

Lights on Ft smell of alcohol coming from you that’s require a specimen of breath me for a preliminary roadside breath test failure or refusal to ride a speci will Rend you liable for prosecution and arrest lean forward for me Lean Forward take a good deep breath

And blow to take to stop simply blowing up a balloon keep going keep going keep going keep going keep going I’ll do take the TU Bel and keep that thinking still thinking dear oh dear Tandy Tests positive the you doing the H light can I have a fog before no you

Can’t tand may give the impression of a quiet man but his mates are a different story no you can go watch out way that’s watch out the way that’s not a Val point just watch out the way go sck in the no do not push the C I’m War I’m not

Own walk away then have you not got CR fight have you not really got something to really solve you love you you try to arrest Dr drivers but really you should have something better to do but you aren’t you’re pathetic recording I’m chasing little drunk drivers go record

Rap rap pathetic she would a bit lar a bit shouty walk away then walk away you’re not you’re just there cheling aren’t you you get the happy drunks and you get the drunks that want to fight we and that’s both Lads and lasses but with drunken ladies it’s uh they are

Sometimes very unpredictable you’re the police I try to gauge things uh to do with drunk people is if my wife or my family were in the vicinity would they be affected or upset by what was going on if I think that there would be then they’ll get locked up for being drunk

Disorderly West Side dear to me the Youth of today they’re just drunken buffoons there’s no other word for them really I think we’ve got to always be mindful that we are in the public eye we come to work we try and make a difference some people like it some people

Don’t while Dan and Dale try to control their drunken passengers back in Bradford Chris and Mike’s arrest of a driver who failed to stop and was found with some cannabis has drawn a crowd of locals obviously you can see we’ve got a big crowd around here it’s uh it soon

Soon could turn on us so we’re just going to drive the car up to the police station so we can get it recovered from there makes sense to try and get out of the area as quick as we can now we’ve caused a bit of a commotion so all the

Locals are out even at simple straightforward accidents we’ve gone to before where cars have been totally trashed people come out and maybe the drivers start arguing and then the crowd on one side gathers against the crowd on the other side and then we’ve got to get

Right in the middle of that and then sort it out many a time when we’ve been in this situation when there’s been a big crowd they all start playing on each other if something gets thrown I’m going to have no idea who it is and it could quite easily escalate the

Situation the cops clear the scene before things get out of hand the driver is taken into custody in another car nice job mate I like it I’ll see you back at Ranch you will I think much faster than out with some of the spay bumps would have struggled in there

I thought he going to say what a superb driver it would like being with Sebastian L that’s what you were going to say the driver’s actions in trying to evade the cops and then ramming two police cars mean that he’ll now face charges of dangerous driving I think

Some of the people that perhaps live on the other side of the law see us in these Pursuits as perhaps a hazard uh part and parcel of what they have to do I just think we’ve got absolutely no regard for the cells or anybody else I mean someone could have been walking out

Of their houses or down streets with the kids and you know he’s Runing his way out quite easily get killed and it’s so guys that have to deal with it and pick up the pieces afterwards back at Manningham police station South Bradford Chris and Mike examine the damage their car has

Suffered we don’t want to get ramm we don’t want to cause all this damage but if it’s a case of that going on he’s ultimately going to crash into someone else anyway that’s that was the only way that that were going to stop um we we’ve

Boxed him and as I say might up as close to them as we could to minimize the damage we’ve seen police cars that have been totally totally not annihilated in these instances cars are designed to to break away um luckily as wasn’t so quick new bumper and we’re off again they

Might be expensive but at the end of day it’s a toilet job they’re there they’re there to do a job with and if if we’re too scared to to damage him we don’t you don’t intentionally want to do it but if you have to then you have to do the main

Thing is I’m all right I’m all right Mike’s all right we we have that kid everyone else is all right so to be fair in the grand scheme of things that ain’t a bad outcome but Chris has taken some damage of his own um I need to get the glass out of my

Finger I didn’t even know that that I’d cook myself until after don’t to looked down and saw my fingers covered in blood and thought Oh my God where’s that come from look at that me might have got hospital for that he’s not a pro like you with glass

Hammer is he like me and you that’s it got a bit overzealous the car can now be thoroughly searched for more drugs he’s obviously got no docks has he we’ve G for pay with cannabis where’s the Cannabis we got it all for you that’s it yeah it’s three bags all those

Risks for being in possession of a small amount of of Drugs well Chris and Mike’s Bradford shift is over back in a supermarket car park off the lead’s Ring Road Dale and Dan are still dealing with their drink driver he’s taking his arrest Well but his mates are continuing to cause problems my door bit don’t open that door do you not understand move away from the car unfortunately most people this day and age aren’t afraid of uh approaching a police car anymore and interfering with what we’re trying to do speaking to uh

Older members on the shift uh in in the days of old that wouldn’t have happened put your put your hands down I think a lot of it depends how they’ve been brought up you generally find that it’s if their family we got to respect for the place and that’ll be passed down

Through sort of generations it’s generally what you teach your children can you say all right let’s get out of Here now the quiet man has found his voice right lad how how long are I’m going to get a ban for that’s entirely up to the Magistrate nothing to do with us right if I get a top solicitor then what you’ll have to be a very very good

Solicitor cuz I’ve not known anybody not get banned for drink driving yo have you got my phone yeah you got any Miss calls on my phone please there about as much life in your phone as was in that tax disc I’ll be honest with you you can get

The recording up from adrenal and they said to me I can drive the car if I’m going to go get tax were you driving into a post office this evening to get tax well this evening clearly I wasn’t that’s a bit bit of a stupid question you’re asking me aren’t you doesn’t seem

Overly bothered a lot of people have all this big bravado I’m so top of the hierarchy this is the alcohol that generally makes a man quite Brave so the insurance told you to drive it to a post office to get tax we driving it at the

Insurance I can drive the car so I’ve drove it cuz they told me I can drive it I arguing with You somebody else comes in yes talk to his desk do you agree to provide two specimens of breath for analysis I do how much paper do you love to do lots no comment I’d hate to be a police officer I suppose in some ways I might

Have to agree with him on that one uh there is a lot of paperwork but uh some of it’s satisfying paperwork and some of it’s not good deep breath blow keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing keep blowing

Keep blowing keep blowing and stop buing there we go M grab a seat the limit what that means is that you’ll have to remain here till you can blow below 30 5 uh and then you will be charged you’ll have to go to court all

Right so will I be taken back to my car no I’ll have to walk back you have to walk back yeah I’ll get a taxi off a bus I think once we been on that machine his realization setting that uh you ain’t going to have a car for 12 18 months

Your CHS with your fence shown below you do not have to say anything but it may have your defense if you do not mention now something which relat to LY in court anything you do say may be giv an Evidence repli to that I think we’ve uh took the wind out of his

Sails unfortunately he might need a boat now to uh get himself around B your shoes off leave them There this a satisfying job it’s another uh drink driver off the road the more drink driver who can lock up and they’re better i’ I spend all night locking them up because I do detest them even though it’s a strong word I really don’t like Him the man PC’s Mike Row and Chris Spencer stopped on the m62 without valid insurance was given six points on his license and a745 fine his friend finally got his lift from the airport 2 hours late no charges were brought against the van driver in relation to the cable

Theft but he was convicted of theft handling stolen goods and driving without insurance and he received 3 months in Prison the chatty girl whose mot had expired was fined £100 the man speeding between hospitals on the m62 pleaded guilty to speeding was fined £100 and given three points on his license the driver who led the cops on a chase through the side streets of Bradford was convicted of dangerous

Driving and driving was disqualified he received 6 months imprisonment 200 hours unpaid work 12 points on his license and was disqualified from driving for 2 and 1/2 years there were no charges in relation to the small amount of cannabis found and the drink driver caught in a supermarket car park was disqualified
