Hello. Looking to buy a new bike so i checked on my local craigs list. These two bikes caught my eye and coming to reddit to see if they are worth a purchase! Both were 250!
Would be using it to mostly ride on trails and streets.

The road bike would not be proper for trails or anything besides paved road. The black trek is more of a causal ride around town bike that can be comfortable and take anywhere with an easy pace. If that one fits you and is comfortable then I’d suggest that one. Always offer less and see how you can negotiate. The white trek 660 is a steel frame and more aggressive riding position and for causal riding I wouldn’t recommend it. It might have higher end components but it’s old and most wouldn’t notice the component upgrade anyway.
2 completely different bicycles & also frame sizes by the looks.
Number 1 will feel slightly more relaxed, upright & controllable with flat bars, more comfortable tyres for trail & road bumps, a bit slower due to extra weight & efficiency loss from forks but you could put some rigid forks on it.
Number 2 you’ll either love or hate, especially with down-tube shifters you kind of lose balance & thus momentum/speed when shifting which makes it difficult to shit uphill, ideally you shift before you need to shift which can be problematic if you’re anal about cadence but once you know exactly where you need to be on a familiar route it’ll be fine, but cumbersome otherwise… They’re pretty much bomb proof though.
I think you should go and try a couple of bikes in store to confirm what style & rough frame size you want before choosing secondhand.
