Just bought a new Specialized Epic Evo after a 20 year hiatus from mountain biking. I removed the rear wheel to snip off the plastic dork disc. While I was doing this I must have applied light outward pressure because the whole cassette slipped away from the hub revealing the ratchet mechanism. Three of the sprung ratchet pieces fell away.
I don’t think it should be possible to do this without some sort of retaining component being removed but I’m so out of date with my MTB technology that I don’t know what’s missing. It’s a Specialized alloy, sealed cartridge bearings, 6-bolt, 148mmx12mm thru-axle, 28h.
The company I bought it from are sending a replacement hub and reimbursing me for having it fitted at a local bike shop so I’m happy with how they’re responding. I’d just like to understand if something is missing or if it’s just not been tightened enough?
