Want to convert my new to me road bike to drop bars, I use it to commute and for longer trips on the weekend. I was thinking of buying a Deda zero with microNew 3×9 hood shifters from AliExpress. I know I also need bar tape, is there anything else I need to think of ?
I don’t have a lot of money to put into this bike yet, and will upgrade parts down the road, but I have large hands and this bar is really hurting on inclines, so I’m pretty eager to make the switch to drop bars.
ggeggeggegge on
Don’t do it. You’ll really compromise the ride quality compared to an actual drop bar bike because the geometries are quite different between them.
If you sell this and buy a drop bar bike you’ll likely come out ahead still compared to buying parts for this bike. The shifters for drop bars are the most expensive component you’ll be up for. Also finding old 9 speed brifters is basically impossible due to them gunking up and dying.
If you go with the new r3000 sora shifters you’ll also need to get a new front derailleur, but the rear would be fine. I still don’t recommend it though
