Hey everyone, I was curious to know how much weight I could potentially throw on my fork?
I want to use blackburn outpost cages using hose clamps and strap my sleeping bag (2.9lbs/1.31kg) to one side, and my tent (3.3lbs/1.49kg) to the other side of the fork, so looking at about roughly 7lbs/3.17kg total weight (including mounts).
i know there are certain concerns regarding carbon fiber and stuff like that, but im unsure about mine.
here is a link to my frame, an old Kona Project 2. https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3666626/.
i cant seem to find much info on my fork it seems to be pretty outdated.
does anyone have experience with this? ideally im trying to run a setup that carries all my water in my frame, tent/sleeping bag on the front fork, and then a backpack strapped on my rear rack with all my other shit.
any information and advice is much appreciated

I’ve had two bikes with carbon forks that had a 3kg weight restriction on each side.
Without the specs of your bike detailing the weight limit that’s the best guess I can think of. I use versa cages and have strapped my tent & a 2l water bottle to forks with no issues
They are steel me thinx. They hold up a bike and rider i cant see a few pounds of clobber making a difference as long as you dont bend the tubes. Try to get proprietary fixings that do the job correctly i would say.
If that’s actually the fork you want to use, l am not concerned about the fork itself.
It’s a steel fork without eyelets and should be able to hold up to any load you are willing to put on it before the steering gets too awkward.
In this case, my concern would be about how to mount the cages so they won’t move when you load them up.
If you have a steel fork with brazed on eyelets, Iit should carry any load.
With aluminium (are these still a thing?) or carbon forks it’s different, the rivnuts typically used on these can rip out, weight capacity depends on how good the connection between rivnuts and forkblades is.
I know of one carbon fork that is intended for packing up to 15 kg: https://sour.bike/shop/accessories/forks/sour-business-fork/
Check [this](https://oldmanmountain.com/product/axle-pack-early-access/) out
Old man mountain makes a fit kit for their front racks that attaches to the through axle, pretty much removing the weight from the fork.
