I’ve been in the habit of browsing Craigslist on a somewhat frequent basis lately, and have came across a really interesting bicycle: it’s a Kabuki Submariner from probably the early eighties. This thing is super weird because it was constructed out of stainless steel, and has thick Aluminum lugs, all with the intention of making a rust-resistant bike; it’s listed cheaply enough that I wouldn’t mind buying it just to have something interesting and weird.

I suppose at the time, all-aluminum bikes were still pretty rare, but is there any advantage over it nowadays? Both are corrosion resistant, and of course Aluminum is much lighter. And what about the lugs, I’ve read that early carbon bikes used aluminum lugs, but both materials next to each other would destroy the carbon. Is there any real risk of them cracking, or not playing well with the stainless steel?
