Hey everyone, I was curious to know how much weight I could potentially throw on my fork?

I want to use blackburn outpost cages using hose clamps and strap my sleeping bag (2.9lbs/1.31kg) to one side, and my tent (3.3lbs/1.49kg) to the other side of the fork, so looking at about roughly 7lbs/3.17kg total weight (including mounts).

i know there are certain concerns regarding carbon fiber and stuff like that, but im unsure about mine.

here is a link to my frame, an old Kona Project 2. [https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3666626/](https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/3666626/)
i cant seem to find much info on this fork it seems to be pretty outdated.

does anyone have experience with this? ideally im trying to run a setup that carries all my water in my frame, tent/sleeping bag on the front fork, and then a backpack strapped on my rear rack with all my other shit.

any information and advice is much appreciated

  1. [Here](https://bikepacking.com/index/add-cage-mounts-bike/) is a pretty decent list of mounting options for cargo cages/etc. You may want to avoid hose clamps and Universal Support Bolts as they aren’t really a “permanent” option, and eventually will break, but if you only plan on using the setup on one trip, they may be the cheapest options.

    [Here](https://bikepacking.com/index/cargo-cages-anything-bags/) is a list of cargo cages/etc to attach to those mounting options. According to this article;

    “Generally speaking, cargo cages and Anything-style cages are designed to carry fairly lightweight, roundish items. Most have a weight limit of around 3 kg ***(6.6 lbs), which matches most fork load limits.***”

    Assuming that the fork you linked is steel, I’d imagine the 6.6 lbs limit would be a safe upper limit to use for the weight you store on cages like this (per blade, I reckon).
