Pretty sure a bearing has diasappeared in this sprocket wheel. Do I need to replace the entire wheel or will a new cassette be enough? Thankful for advice with this Dino technology

The bolts on either side were tightened and there’s internal play between the axle and cassette somewhere, leading to the tyre rubbing against the fender and wearing out. (The rust is from Uni Life outside as a pub bike)

Either a very loose cups and cones bearings or a broken axle. Both reasosn has nothing to do with cassette, so don’t waste money for now. Start off with taking off the wheel, take off the cassette and inspect bearings.

Maybe it justs need adjusting bearings and no money at all. Maybe a new axle is needed, which isn’t that expensive.

Buying a new wheel surely is a fast solution, but its far from cheap, and probably reasonoble in such situation

You’ve got a cup and cone hub. Looks like the bearings have come way out of adjustment and (potentially) may have a broken axle.

You’ll either need to:

* drop it in with your local bike shop for a hub service (arguably just as expensive to just get a new wheel).

* Attempt a hub service at home (requiring, grease, new ball bearings, handful of tools, a lot of patience)

* Buy a new wheel and swap the tube, tyre, and freewheel over. (Or get a local shop to do this)

Here is a video on how to replace a hollow rear wheel axle, you have a solid axle but the replacement process is the same.

If it’s too much work, I would suggest giving it in to a bike shop with the broken axle.
