Need some opinions here. I’ve got a 2023 caad13 that’s running a 12 speed cassette. I’ve ran into an issue where there are certain wheels I can’t use on this bike because the lock ring will impact the weld when the through axle is tightened down and will prevent the wheel from spinning. For example, the picture attached is with enve 4.5s and there’s just enough room to spin, whereas I can’t use winspace hypers because the lock ring will snag on the weld. Both wheels use shimano 11 and 12 speed compatible freehub bodies.

Has anyone had that issue before? I’m broadly assuming it’s not a good idea to trim down the welds. I had the first frame warranty replaced for this issue and I’m starting to think it’s just the way it is.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Are you over torquing the TA? I don’t think that would be the issue but it’s all I can think of.

Yeah, I wouldn’t mess with the welds. I would see what Cannondale says (again).
