Hi All!
I am currently in the process of acquiring quotes for a custom made bike that will take me on long haul bike packing trips.
Does anybody have any experience with a SON Dynamo Hub or a SP Dynamo? Any reviews of both would be much appreciated, or any advice on alternatives 🙂
Thank you!

My eldest SON is from 2005 and still working.
I have no point of comparison, but I have 2 bikes with SON’s, oldest being 3 years and have had no issues with them at all.
Read the recent article on bikepacking.com first. Unless you’re doing a lot of easy terrain then your speed is not going to be enough to generate anything worthwhile
I have had bearings fail on 2 SP hubs. One was infant mortality, the bearing failed when riding it home from the shop. The other after about 10000km. Would have replaced with another SP hub but the shops I was talking with in Korea were saying it was impossible to get there but one had a SON so I picked it up. Have probably 3500km on the SON, no problems.
Would use either, but I’d get the SON serviced, whereas the SP I’d replace.
I only use mine to power lights. As far as usb output, meh. But my lights are *always* on, and that’s how I like it.
SON28 and Igaro C1 = the best combination and future-proof. Both have 5yr warranty.
