I’m looking to get my first fixed gear and found this for sale locally and looking to see if it’s a good buy. Guy says he bought in Korea a few years back and is selling it for 100. What do you think?
Technically speaking it should be fine but there’s nothing special about it. I will say if it fits you right and you haven’t ridden fixed gear before then it’d be hard to pass it up at this price as any working bicycle is worth at least 75 imo. If you do like riding it then you can worry about getting a better bike later on

You get what you pay for. I’d say it’s worth the $100 but it’s not anything special or reputable. An extra couple hundred bucks would get you a WAY better bike that would last you a lot longer.

You could do worse for $100 but you can also probably do better if you wait, depending on your area. The components including the frame and wheels are pretty dang cheap, but not the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel. It’s kind of crossing the line from budget build into department store bike territory. This is a minor issue because the components are less durable, heavy, whatever, but could be a major issue if it wasn’t ever serviced by a competent mechanic. Bikes like this are typically manufactured and assembled somewhat carelessly to keep the cost down, e.x. Wheel bearings might not be preloaded or installed/adjusted correctly which can cause them to wear out very fast. If this was sold by a reputable bike shop or if the original owner had it serviced at one soon after buying it from wherever else it came from, it’s not a bad deal. If it’s never been touched by a good mechanic, or was only serviced after a lot of riding (which seems unlikely given how clean it looks), I would definitely pass.
