So, notice how nice the headset tube is. That’s Fucking Chicago Schwinn! I mean, it’s not light, and probably not as “good” as lugged construction, but when I went on my honeymoon in 2001 on Mackinac Island, the rentals were all still using “Chicagos” because they were indestructible.
The headset is actually a casting, that the frame tubes are arc-welded to. The other welds are all done internally. It makes for a very clean and durable joint.
This bike isn’t a performer, but it’s the kind of bike where the story includes “and the tires still held air!”

Great find. I had another version of this in High School. Rode it in college, handed it down to a younger classmate when a sponsor bought us a bunch of Centurions for regional races.
