The Kink is $450 with coupon, plus cost of pegs and hub guards. Fly is on backorder discount for $440, includes everything. I like the color of the Fly better, but it has “semi double wall rims” while the Kink has double. I can also choose LHD on the Fly which I think I’d like because I skate goofy and fight southpaw. I’m 6’3 185lbs and I’ve narrowed my selection to these two bikes but can’t make a decision. I’m brand new to BMX so this would be my first bike.

You’re not heavy so I wouldn’t be as concerned about the rims. I think I would get whichever one has longer TT, higher bars, longer stem.
Are the rest of the specs and materials basically the same? Chromoly, cassette hub, etc…?
Worth noting there’s delays on fly bikes being shipped out it seems at the moment, so bare that in mind.
Id say the fly. It has 48 spline cranks and i believe both wheels on the fly are female. You can always buy rims that are on sale if youre worried about the semi double wall but i doubt you’ll need to unless youre doing tricks off of big drops
Fly looks aesthetically nicer to me
I picked up the proton last march as my new to bmx bike and have been loving it. I am a little smaller than you, 5’11 130lbs, and I eventually got taller bars cause the 9″ felt a little short for my preference so that may be an added expense for either bike not too far down the road.
I ended up trying 10″ bars and I liked it a lot more. Then just last week I replaced the stem with a front load that has 13mm shorter rise which I think puts my handles at about the height they would be if I got 9.5″ bars originally and its been feeling like its where I want them.
As for the rims I cant say too much since I am pretty light and not sending huge stuff but I regularly hop smaller stair sets and they are holding up perfectly.

you might want a frame with a tt bigger than 21″
im 6’4 and going with a 21.8″ tt frame
