We travelled to the Govanhill area of Glasgow to speak to Women on Wheels Hub to see how the latest #RockUpandRide site delivering free bikes and coaching to communities is faring.
The second stage of the Transport Scotland-funded project supported by our official bike supplier Halfords was launched this Autumn and sees hundreds more kids and families getting involved in cycling.
So women in Wheels is a women’s Community Cycling hub for women run by women it was set up about 18 months ago and by myself and basically there was a need in the community we teamed up with rock up and ride earlier on this year in March time
Um Who provided us with with equipment um containers bikes um locks lights Etc and that allowed us to be able to launch to family so we’re still working with women but we’re now able to work with the kids as well and get whole family Cycling I love it it’s so fun and it’s a great way to uh see wildlife and have a breath of nature my mom is special she’s learned how to ride her bik from here and my sister also she’s uh gained Confidence from here as well uh cuz
She’s had a little accident but now they’ve helped her and she’s able to write her bike Again we break down women’s barriers to cycling for physical health mental health as a mode of transport and for the joy of it we want to share that Joy with lots of other Families You know it can be quite daunting like cycling through the C Center I was even telling a the other day I want to get my own bike but my confidence is still not there yet so I’m hoping cycling with a is going to help That I always look forward to them on Tuesdays cuz I feel like it’s a way I can like relax cuz like biking is almost like therapy for me
