I have been looking for a new Downcountry/XC bike to augment a beefier trail bike. I know throwing different tires on my tail bike would make a world of difference but really looking for the N+1. I live Phx, AZ USA and do a lot of trails I think I’m overbiked on. I ride a lot of trails around the west valley and venture out a little. The majority of my rides have been at:

I hit surrounding trails at those locations to add miles. Anything with bigger features or drops I would bring my trail bike but really looking for something between that and my gravel bike.
Does anyone have experience with the 951 XC in rocky desert trails? Overall reviews seem positive but hard to find any with substance. The Fox Suspension seems on point, the 4 pot brakes seem adequate, I have a GX shifter and derailer sitting in the garage from an old build if the NX acts up. For $2,799 or if it goes on sale again $2,299 should I be concerned or looking elsewhere? I have a pretty nice tax refund coming and and planning on making the purchase the end of the month.

With all the sales running I have been searching for anything XC or downcountry but everything seems way to high end or out of stock.

For the cost the 951 XC is a sick bike. A hair less so given all the deals other brands are having right now, but overall it’s still good.
The TRP brakes are on point. The suspension is efficient. The frame is fairly lightweight and a proven platform (Intense Sniper T).
There are a few downsides that bugged me a little, specifically: press fit bottom bracket, the tall seat tube which limits dropper length, and the WTB rims. Beyond that the frame itself is a great base to build on.
It’s pretty much on par with my Epic Evo but at a much more attractive price when it’s on sale.
