Can anyone help me with what the black plastic piece is on the back of an older Shimano Alivio BR-MC10 cantilever brake?
Was cleaning my newly acquired 1994 Gary Fisher Tassajara and dropped the cantilever brake, and that black piece broke .
Any idea of the name? And if there’s somewhere to find that small piece? All I can find is the whole brake.
May have to hit up the local used bike shop.
Thanks

It looks like the arrow is pointing to the spring cover.
To my knowledge these plastic covers aren’t sold separately.
It was never a spare part, so if you find it, it came off another brake. It’s the most common part to fail on those calipers though.
Good news is Shimano sells cantis that cost about $12
I know elevation wheel company has some 3D printed ones!
[try these if you have a 3D printer, they worked for me fixing up a buddies old hard rock](https://bikemechanicnews.com/product/shimano-cantilever-brake-spring-retainers-pair/)
The plastic part has always failed on those. Shimano would send out huge boxes of replacements to shops. There are probably some out there, but was never meant to be sold to consumers.
