(I apologize in advance for the lack of appropriate words, english is not my first language and my knowledge in bike technical features is almost non-existent)

HELP! I got this bike a week ago and have pedaled roughly 40 miles on it. What started as an uncomfortable click now is a full inconvenient skip on my chain, so checking it I discovered this stiff link.

I’ve tried various methods online and nothing has worked for now.

1. Wiggling it
2. Screwdriver in between the metal thingies
3. Oil over the link
4. Crying a bit

I’m worried that it may need a chain change as the link seems damaged. Would you say it needs changing? Or should I just try another method?

Also, I had plans of using it tomorrow. If this doesn’t solve, is it wise to go anyways? Or would it damage my bike?

Thanks in advance for reading and helping me! 🙏🏽

  1. Probably needs a new chain. Bring it back to the shop that put it together and show them the seized link. It’s *possible* that you could fix it, but it’ll be finicky at best and might even damage that link. It’s rideable, but it’ll probably skip and might get stuck and damage something, so I wouldn’t.
