Um quite bad yeah what happened did you have it rebuil or said to me yeah I had the I I took it to Morocco and as was doing some kind of semi off-roading got back and the the thread for the spark plug just completely popped out of the

Engine so I had to get the whole top of the engine rebuilt it then spent about four God maybe even four to six mon four to 6 months something like that at a mechanic waiting parts and getting fixed I then rode it through probably a foot

Of water it rode fine after that but then I left it outside in torrential rain for a week but you know ever since Morocco and a few other things it’s just not been running right so it’s not good um okay interesting it’s the problem is it’s probably the the

Rings and and uh you know the barrels need doing yeah um it’s you’re probably better off if you’re going to repair it is to get another engine you know just put an engine straight in it wow so you think it is probably potentially that far gone it’s just not worth spending

Any more money on it I wouldn’t spend money on that engine no it’s if you want to you you could get another engine yeah in it uhhuh um that’s an option I would if I was you if it was mine I would either put another engine in it y you

Know buy an engine off the internet which you’ll probably spend you know you’ll see them on there between sort of 700 to 1,000 lb for an engine yeah um complete um that should one option yeah and then put an engine in that bike or you you know the only other option is to

Buy another bike or you can rebuild that engine but you’re got to spend money doing that and it’s already done 40,000 do you know what I mean you you could get another engine which has done sort of 20 10 20,000 yeah um other options are obviously to get another buy

Another bike you know is another option you don’t want to money on that you can put that money towards another bike so the way it is right now basically it doesn’t run I wouldn’t be able to trust it to use it as a you bake no because

It’ll probably run all right when you’re opening it up and riding it at faster RS but when it’s low it’s just chugging and horrible it’s yeah it’s not got the compression to keep it going you know and it’s pushing air past the Rings back into the air box which is making it run

Too rich yeah yeah it’s running awful The Saga ends it’s the end of an era I I was expecting to tell you that we’re going for a nice little walk to Canterbury today 2 minutes before I was about to start filming Jason from troto the tri specialist called me and I

Didn’t expect him to call this soon I expected him maybe to call on Friday or something like that and you probably got the gist of the conversation while Monica was filming but we had a five- minute chat about the bike and long story short it is in such atrocious

Condition the engine is just he believes and he’s an expert Beyond saving it there are just so many things wrong with it and broken with it it’s running appallingly badly he’s tried changing the starter I think the starter solenoid that’s sorted out the starter issues but

The actual engine itself the core of the bike is beyond saving the options he said he said you can get a new engine maybe you could pick one up from eBay for £700 then of course I would have to get that engine to try Moto Jason would then

Have to fit the engine and then we’d have to make sure it’s running we’d have to make sure that the engine i’ bought is a good engine that works so there are huge huge risks involved in replacing an engine and putting a new engine in a bike is is not something I feel

Comfortable with Jason’s opinion it’s not worth saving the bike so that is the end of the Bon Saga that’s lasted 7 months since Morocco the the bike is dead it’s at troto now I said to Jason look can I just have one or two days

Just to think about what to do to decide and I’m still not 100% sure right now my initial thought top of my list I cannot spend any more money on it I can’t spend a grand and a half minimum maybe for example on an engine and fitting it and seeing if it

Works I think I’m going to have to go pick up the bike see if I can limp it back not back to belir because I don’t have enough parking spots but maybe if I limp it back to IP switch leave it in a parking spot I’ve got an IP switch and just

Leave it there otherwise I’m scrapping it I’m taking that’s so sad yeah it’s a bit too sad so maybe I’ll I’ll just leave it in a lock up cuz it’s worthless now you know people could buy the wheels off it or something like that so that’s it for the Bonville it’s dead 100%

Guarant aned no messing about no more money will be spent on it it’s over a uh yeah I really honestly thought he would call me to tell me okay right it’s actually not that big a problem but anyway I’ll move on Monica and I are going to go to Canterbury before we go

Let me do a wreck watch segment here because they’ve got a really good sale on the TT icon and I love wck watches so we’ll do a bit of a good mood before we head off to Canterbury I’m a huge huge Rec Watchers fan I’ve got two of their watches and

This is another of their watches from their motor spite or their motorcycle inspired collection it’s the TTT icon 1000 so recat is Danish company they make Danish designed Watchers made in Switzerland the story behind this one icon 1000 Motorsports in the US made a 2013 trium speed master and they turned

It into a drag racing monster but they kept the classic look of the bike so the stattic cover from that bike is used in the inner dial of this Swatch so you can see all of the imperfections in it it’s a limited edition I think there are

About 60 left of them but it’s got this lovely flick here on the side so it goes from dress mode and you can see the dial change flick it down into riding mode so you can actually see the right orientation of the watch face when you’re riding just beautiful beautiful

Detail details everywhere on the watch with that lovely black surround on the outside and 107 of 262 there it really is it’s a stunningly stunningly nice watch currently Black Friday sale up until 8th 8th of December so just a few days left these are half price meaning you can get this watch for

£598 and I really do think that is a phenomenally good deal so if you are in the market for a new watch go and check out Rec watches and the icon 1,000 it is time still perfect Night those three words words spelled out in your Eyes but before I go on say something Wrong I just hope by My cuz you’ve been told to many times before and you’ve been told so many times before so going Try you and this is quite weird I’m looking for a new bike and they’ve got the song Everybody Hurts in the background this is Robinson’s Foundry in culture and I wanted to couple it up cuz I knew we’re going to coester today but I just saw that this place existed on Google

Before we came Royal Enfield Indian a couple of triumphs here and Moto goodsy as well so there’s a chance I may be able to see all of the bikes I’m potentially considering this although it’s not specifically a Triumph dealer this is in stock now this would be the obvious

Choice 2-year-old or so try t120 9 and 1 12K and not in black little bit of me thinks it’ be quite nice to get something nonblack for the next bike peashooter exhausts beautiful tank work just a a proper upgrade in essence to my Bonville see this is the sensible Choice

Here this will do everything my Bonville did but probably to a better degree okay I’m going to show you a few more of my favorites Monica I’ll take the camera off you there’s a lot to see I’m going to start with a brand new Royal Enfield I’ve never seen in the flesh

Before great selection of Royal enfields huge amount of the meteors stacked up scram 411s and right there are the new bullets and this is something that could potentially be on my list here to get one of these new bullet 350s it’s a great looking bike at about four £ 4,700 it’s really

Tempting and seeing them in the flesh as well very very nice looking bike really nice finish with a proper badge and all in black with that gold detailing on the tank and a really beautiful style seat 5-speed 350cc 195 kg service intervals every 12 months you know that is a very sensible

Choice then you’ve got the original Hans but they will be phased out imminently by what will be a huge upgrade in the new one motor gutsy v v 100 stunning look looking bike with that characterful v twin engine 13 and 1 12K I can’t lie that’s probably a bit expensive for

Me but next to it one of these 11,200 for a bike I love the v85 TT you can get them even cheaper on the used Market at about I think I think 5 or 6K potentially that is an interesting proposition Behind These I’ve seen something that definitely would be in my

Short list the V7 motor goodies I’ve only just seen these this is the upgraded 850cc and this is a revelation compared to the much slower outgoing model that left about three or four years ago or so this new 850 engine in this bike meant to completely transform it compared to the predecessor £

8,600 I believe for a brand new one just classically styled beautifully elegant bikes that would definitely definitely be in the short list coming through here Monica’s dream bike the mint Vesper lineup of Royal enfields with something I’m hoping to test out in a couple of weeks or so the super meteors

6.8k up to about 7.3k and they look really good very nicely proportioned get one with a touring pack so you can get a little back rest on the back very very excited to try those and I’ll just come around here very quickly there are a couple

More motor goodies this is a strip back V1 100 and you can see it better without the piers on the back the lovely lines of that bike and one other bike that may be an outside Choice Royal Enfield Interceptor although I don’t think that would quite make the cut for me and

Finally they’ve got the Indians as well so if I’m considering spending a bit more money well I wouldn’t say no to an Indian those Chiefs are beautiful beautiful looking bikes got the huge ones here and the likes of the Chiefs and the scouts over here I mean one of these Chiefs would

Be dream level bike especially one of these without the fairing on the front I mean just have a look at that Chief right next to the Scout tempting very tempting that’s probably one of the best looking Cruisers currently out on the market I’d say that is a perfectly

Proportion bike with one of the most beautiful looking engines and one of the scouts really tempting and behind me very quickly not one I’d specifically consider but the Indian FTR range as well and right in the corner I almost missed this the maybe the best color combo

Helian I think they call it hian blue or gray for the Royal Enfield classic 350 brown seat perfect spec that is Art and around here just before I wrap it up one of the new ish Scouts I think that is a brand new Scout and behind it

What would that be would that be a 1950s Scout or something like that okay that was useful just to see a lot of bikes in one place really nice place Robinson’s Foundry in Canterbury highly recommend good choice of bikes the ones that that caught my eye the

Moto goodsy v85 TT the Triumph t120 if I want to Safe Bet obviously the motor goodsy for a slightly more exotic option the Royal Enfield Bullet 350 lovely looking bike really impressed I like that a lot but how would I feel going from an 865 to a

350 the 865 just gives me more flexibility taking two up and stuff so that’s something I’d have to consider super metor looks great as well as do the scouts I would say probably in reality if there were two from there I would seriously consider t120

V85 TT and V7 I’ve just said three I know okay I’ll carry on my soft search for now mhm carry on it’s a strange feeling looking at bikes knowing I actually have to have to finally put my money where my mouth is turn left onto pound Lane then turn right onto M Lane Open Know It must be about it’s got to be 3 years or so since we were last in Canby and I forgot how stunning it is every single Street you go down to the left or right it looks like it’s the scene from a movie it’s Immaculate and gloriously well preserved it’s a really really

Special place highly recommend it because I was so focused on motorcycles today we’ve shown almost none of it but I think Monica got a bit of b-roll of it but next time we’re here and it will be soon I’ll make sure we do a proper video

Of Canterbury I mean just to give you a little taste have a look at the interior of this little cafe this pretty much sums up what Canterbury is like Interiors of every little shop every little building the exteriors they’re all perfect I’ll make sure to keep you

Posted on on what goes on with the well not the Bonville I know what’s going on the bonnaville but what goes on with my quest to find a new bike I’m I’m really genuinely hand on heart un sure I’ve got my should I be completely honest here

I’ve got my bike in my head that I think everything else needs to beat if I’m going to be completely honest and a bike has emerged as my top that other bikes have to try and beat to to get to the the bike i’ pick and that’s the TR speed master 1200 you’re

Too tall for it Monica thinks I’m too tall for it I don’t I know 6’4 Riders who have the speed master and I could get maybe the mini ape bars Monica’s shaking your head that for me is still number one the speed master I’ll I’ll see I need to check out a few

More bikes have a look but it’ll be exciting I’ll keep you posted to see where the journey takes me but thank you so much everyone for watching and we will see you all in the next one

Share.

  1. I don’t understand why someone from triumph doesn’t just give you a bike as you promote them so well as being all round bikes. I bought my bonneville because of you amd your video’s!!!!

  2. Hi Freddie, a few years ago my local Triumph dealer, gave my 1971 Triumph 650, classic T120R with 5 thousand miles genuine, a once over, as I wanted to get it back on the road, When I went to pick it up he told me that the engine was knackered, I asked why, he started the bike up and at about 3k there was a reverberating sound, which he said was piston slap, he said I will give you a thousand pounds and take it off your hands, I told him I thought it was a very good offer 😉but I needed time to think about it, he said well don't think for too long otherwise I might change my mind ! When I got back home, I saw that the bracket for the horn was broken and it was vibrating against the frame ! 🤣

  3. His diagnosis is crap i doubt he has done a propper inspection he is to vague nothing precise about what he has said you need to find a trustworthy mechanic if a mechanic is any good he can look at any vehicle petrol or diesel two or four wheels an engine is an engine they all work the same

  4. Rear EV hub the Triumph 2000 usd, no bike under a hundred thousand miles should need pistons. Several BMW airheads are good for far more than a modern Triumph?

  5. Freddie, don't sell it or scrap it. Park it and when you have the money put a new engine in or rebuilt the one in it. You have way too much history with the Bonneville to let it go.

  6. At worst you will need a rebore, new pistons and rings , cheap as chips to fix , you don’t want to spend a few bob to fix it yet you would spend £4.6k to 9K on another bike ?? Must have more money than sense

  7. I’m with you “richandiben” the problem started with the spark plug blowing out its thread, Freddie did all those miles no problem then puts it in for repair gets the bike back after what seemed to be an eternity and then complains about the fuel consumption as it’s drinking loads of fuel.
The water problem has only become because Freddie rode through the flooded river and left the bike out for a week in the rain this affected the electrics in a big way. We all know he had a solenoid problem in the past.
Ok let’s go back to the fuel and running fault which and I say which only showed its head after the repair was completed, now I betting it’s the valve timing that’s causing this problem so Freddie you need to have this confirmed and make sure the valves are in time also the cam wheels/sprockets have been pre loaded before you toque everything up.
Then do a compression test and balance to make sure the fuelling is working correctly.
If your loosening so much compression like the guy said your have oil in your air filter box laying on the bottom and possibly burning it through the engine. So Freddie as I said before im willing to do this WITH NO CHARGE AND I CAN COME TO YOU.

  8. I used to own a V7ii for three years and I sold it a month ago for the V85TT. Just pick the V85TT and you won't regret it. Trust me, you can do more stuff with it and it's super comfortable for the passenger. I bought the Evocative Version for 11.300 Euro in Greece, that was a great deal.
Make sure you pick the updated version with tubeless tires and Sport mode.

  9. In my experience, if a motorbike engine sucks in water it tends to bend con rods slightly (or completely throw em) That could cause the symptoms described, but so could water in the ECU or rectifier. Why not get it home, do a compression test, valve clearance etc and diagnose what is actually wrong, other than your time you have nothing to lose and possible a simple fix to save you thousands.
    Good Luck.

  10. Greetings to you Freddie, the only bike that fits the criteria which,by virtue of my comprehensive experience (albeit predominantly on BMWs) for you is without doubt the Yamaha Tracer 9 gt. Or perhaps the better version being the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT plus which is my current bike. But don’t take my word for it but rather consider carefully what the better informed/qualified experts have to say about it in their comprehensive reviews of this brilliant bike, you know it makes sense Rodney

  11. He is pulling your chain, ask for the compression test results. If the rings were shot it would smoke or would blow oil out of the breather which in your case would probably end up in the airbox underneath the filter. Under no circumstances take a "I'll take it off your hands for £x" offer from him. The conking out is probably an electrical fault that means a few hours with contact cleaner and dialectic grease, taking apart every connector (and switch) on the bike, drying them out and cleaning with contact cleaner and reassembling with dialectic grease. Not difficult but time consuming. Then every electrical component should be checked, alternator, rectifier/regulator, ignition switch, coils, sensors etc to determine whether they are within operating tolerances. If you have a good manual with a good wiring diagram and the performance parameters listed and a £20 ohm meter it is not that difficult. The alternative is to systematically change the components, cheapest first, but that can be a very expensive and frustrating route

  12. That guy you're talking to on the phone is either a horse's ass, a rip off arist, or both. Just check the compression. Very quick and easy to do. That'll tell you (no "probably" about it) if the rings and bore are good.

  13. I am watching you the day you started sir!! And I told you just keep going you are doing wonderful!! I still remember 1 to 2k views in the beginning!! And nowwww look at it!! Keep going sir!! All the best sir

  14. The saga has already continued, and I will watch those videos too, but my comment on this one is that you are paraphrasing what he is saying a bit. He said that it may not be economical to fix it, and it may be cheaper just to replace your engine with a good one. There are some problems with that though, the first of which is how you know that a replacement engine is good. When a car gets in an accident, if the damage to the engine area isn't too severe, the engine is perfectly fine, but for a motorcycle, it is rare for the frame or running parts to be so broken that only the engine can be salvaged, in good condition. Normally any kind of severe accident would also damage the engine. I didn't catch everything that was said over the phone, but I thought I heard him say that there was blowback past the rings, which normally means into the crankcase. But then he mentioned something about the airbox, so I am a bit confused at the diagnosis. If it is just the valve seats, you could have the top end done over and fixed. Then there are the electrics though. I don't know this bike, but I presume that the wiring harness is fine, and wherever the ECU or whatever it has sits, is what needs replacing. This is probably one module, perhaps a couple of additional bits, but again, this is doable. I doubt if the parts cost would be that high. Of course, labour could mount.

  15. HA Freddie and Monica good to see you in Canterbury my neck of the woods especially The Foundery where I bought my meteor 350 from. Next time you do a meet up there and everyone can have some great food at the smoke Shake there. Wish you all be best on your looking for a new bike and for the 2024. Regards Martin
