Bought this Nishiki prestige 1985 and noticed the seatpost have these holes on either side. was this used as a place to bolt a rack? safe to ride?
additionally, would like an opinion on wether or not i should repaint this bike. Thanks!

Is the seatpost stuck?
Probably stuck, someone drilled a hole to try to remove it
Should be safe, but that hole is not from the factory. I wouldn’t repaint, start by spending the time to clean everything and maintain the drivetrain and bearings as needed
I would clean it up, the beausage is a bonus. Just about anything else you throw money at on that bike is going to be more beneficial than paint.
It’s probably safe to ride but that post is ugly as heck and new posts are $20-30 and will look amazing and be without a hole drilled in it
