I’ve remember someone posted this same issue a few months ago. Rode over a paved ridge in the road, no biggy usually, just a bit bumpy much like crossing rail tracks. But i heard a loud snap coming from somewhere as if something broke eventhough I think i was freewheeling and pulling the brakes at that time.
Continued riding for another 50m when I had to slow down again. When I wanted to get going again, my drivetrain was not engaging. Weirdly enough, i walked with my bike for 10 meters or so, when it suddenly did engage and I could continue. But it happened again a handfull more times during the day.
My guess is a pawl or something in the freehub might have snapped? I will bring it to the LBS soon when I get back from a brief spell away from home, but for now I’m just curious what the issue might be. Many thanks for thinking with me!

Sounds like a good assumption the pawls or rachet of the free hub body are not engaging. What type of hub is it?
Maybe not the most helpful but I had something similar happen to me and my commuter where the combo of wet and extreme cold caused the pawls to not engage at times. It was intermittent for a while before it failed entirely.
Drip some Paul’s Tenacious oil into the free hub and spin it for a while. Those pawl springs will come back to life.
Do you wash your bike with a hose or a power washer?
