Hey guys, I’m new around here and recently made my first overnight trip with only my bike, my tent and my gopro/drone.
I’m currently trying to get into that topic as I think it’s a fantastic way to explore – even the area I live in. I’m going to scroll through this subreddit and am sure I’ll find a lot of useful tips and cool insights from you guys on your trips.
The Hohe Strasse is part of the Via Regia and is about 40km from the start in Frankfurt to finish. The complete trip was round about 100 km as I started directly from my home.
The first day was sunny and fun. The route offers nice views of the Skyline Frankfurt, the Taunus or the castle Ronneburg. There are a few stations built along the route with some swings, an XXL bench and other smaller staff, where you can also learn about this history of the route.
In the evening I noticed that I my time management was off as I needed some food and water, but stores were soon closing. I wanted to film and fly my drone, which probably also played a role in that miscalculation… So I had to hurry up, but eventually got it done. After cycling around, I found a spot where I put up my tent, had a beer and tried unsuccessfully to get some sleep. This time probably also because I was completely on my own, no camping ground or a buddy around ( which also didn’t help the previous two times haha). Third night in my tent, third night without sleep….bad record haha.
As soon as the sun rose the next morning, I packed my stuff, had a few cereal bars for breakfast and started my way back home. I wasn’t too thrilled at first, probably because of the sleepless night, but after a few minutes I felt alright and had a smooth ride home (round about 35 km I guess).
It was really fun and a great experience besides not being able to sleep for at least 3 or 4 hours. I’ll hopefully soon get used to sleeping in my tent. And I definitely need to learn how to get it all done (cycling, filming, breaks, looking for a place to sleep) without getting in a hurry. But I guess that will also come with more experience. And that was what this trip was about for me. Enjoy the biking and get some experience 🙂
Cheers

That looks like such a fun route to cycle! I have a question out of complete lack of knowledge about how things work in your part of Germany: is camping allowed anywhere along that route? I see so many posts talking about how “wild camping” is not allowed in Germany, so I am curious about what is allowed on this route. Really great video, by the way!
