Hello and welcome back! In this video I’m out for another endurance base ride. Also, I’ll show the things I carry on every endurance ride. We have more rain again! I really hope for a dry Sunday soon, so I can put something better together, but gotta do what you gotta do right?

So those are the essentials I carry on a Century ride or thereabouts I deliberately head out in the rain and it just always rains at the Moment Oh [Applause] Yeah Welcome to another Ultra cycling related video if you watched any previous videos thanks for coming back and if it’s your first one I’m Andy an ultra cyclist on the south coast of the UK and the videos I make at the moment are about my training going into the 24

Season not sure at what point I give in and just call these rain related all it does is rain that’s all right so if you have endurance goals of your own subscribe and follow along I’m sure there’ll be some useful nuggets so on the cards today got about 70 or 80

Miles something like that out to Winchester all the way around and back to pouth ridden this route a few times and it’s good fun quite flowy rolling roads quite pretty and a good Cafe stop I don’t deliberately head out in the rain Sunday is the best day for me

Really and it just always rains at the moment it’s not forecast to be all day so not too worried it’s quite warm hopefully dry up a bit in a little while let’s see good news is I got rid of the cold feel much better there was a little bit of

Controversy in the comments of the last video I made small amount just to be clear I don’t advise anybody to ride and train when you’re already ill just that there’s often a balance to be struck but personally I managed to recover I got through my workouts this

Week a bit of a setback I’ll be completely honest it’s never ideal but just ticked along workouts were pretty tough I was well enough to get through them and now I feel fine let’s see how I feel after this ride anyway hopefully you’re all well had a good week got to say

Struggled with motivation this morning few too many shandies last night Christmas party with school friends bit by 2:00 a.m. little bit tipsy and then up at 7 to go riding didn’t really fancy it but got to do what you got to do I was asked by someone a little while

Ago in the comments can I show what I bring on longer 100 mile rides this won’t be 100 miles today but if this Cals down a bit I’ll have a look at my bag see what I got in there and I’ll show You Itated Seated okay as I mentioned earlier I’ll go through what I carry for these longer rides this is in response to a comment from a subscriber called JP riding thanks for the question if you’re interested in what I pack for Ultra races and longer events that will vary

From event to event I did a video on Paris press Paris at the beginning of that went through my kit list everything I packed for that event so today I’m out doing a about 70 80 M something like that much less kit to carry so I’ll go through it the

Bag is an Alp kit Deluge uh completely waterproof That’s essential in England sadly my Mason in terms of kit obviously a spare inage tube I have a pump and a proper lever makes life a lot a lot easier power bank for my camera puncher repair kit have multi-tool bit filthy really

Handy it’s a spare Lube a tiny little bottle of lube I think this was a dropper from uh Vape I don’t Vape but was given it by someone who does it’s actually really handy for carrying Loop and then some tools and gloves spare chain links got a chain breaker cable

Ties gloves more Lube pretty filthy in there that’s everything I tend to need and thankfully it’s pretty rare I have to dip into it but for 100 mile rides up to that sort of level wouldn’t carry a whole lot more than that other than food credit card at least the rain

Stopped result I’m getting pretty chilly s here though so better start riding warm up a bit go home get in the warm and Dry so those are the essentials I carry I wouldn’t be without on these rides 100 miles there thereabouts interested to know what you carry I hardly ever need any of it very rarely but wouldn’t be without any of it chain links never know yeah wonder what you carry maybe I

Might add to mine let me know and thanks for the question J riding if anybody’s got a question they want me to come back on I’ll try no expert but feel free ask away [Applause] oh that’s such a good descent into Petersfield it’s called Stoner Hill I’ve been considering everesting that for

Ages there’s something about everesting really offputting so I might give it a go He well might be cold and wet that’s one benefit to riding in the rain once the rain clears the clouds can be pretty epic so thanks for watching again if you made it this far thanks but uh yeah have a good week onwards and upwards look after yourselves hopefully bring you

Some nice weather next week see you later

  1. Get some TPU tubes as spares!! Even if you do not completely trust them to run them full-time, you could carry 4x TPU tubes in less space and less weight than 1 butyl tube. Personally I run Conti GP 5000 clincher tires using Silca latex tubes. I carry 2x TPU tubes as spares.

  2. You have probably mentioned it before – but on cold wet days what is your advice to keep your feet warm and dry….I have tried a quite a few things from tinfoil on undersoles, to the obvious blocking up underside vent holes, sealskin socks to merlin wool socks with [supposedly] waterproof overshoes but my feet always get cold [toes are like blocks of ice] and wet….trying some foot warmers this Sunday [the peel off sort] with two pairs of thin socks [footwarmer inbetween] plus Castelli thermal overshoes….at least the forecast is dry this Sunday ☺

  3. Spare mech hanger as recommended by Katie Kookaburra? Found out too late when I needed one after being squeezed off the road by an impatient driver and fell off. Limped home with one awkward gear. My bike has model specific hanger so even if offered someone else's spare it would be unlikely to fit.

  4. Really appreciate that, thanks. The vape bottle filled with lube is a great idea, will add that to my kit. Hope you get some good weather over Christmas. Cheers!

  5. If all else fails, there is a cyclist breakdown cover available from a company called ETA. It's good value at around £25 a year. Im considering signing up, even though I've never been left stranded by a mechanical or puncture, just for the peace of mind really.

Oddly, although I carry plenty of spares its usually someone else on my group rides that needs them, and had I not been there they would have been stranded.

  6. Great list.
As I often do (shorter) multi day I probably have too much spares kit for single day rides but can’t be bothered to swap it all out al the time. And I figure it will help someone out someday. So I have spare quick links, gear/brake cable, small coil of duck tape, derailleur hanger, a tiny gruber multi-tool with pliers. Plus your lot. But never spare links otherwise.

Whether I could actually fix a seriously bad mechanical is another matter let alone roadside. But might be useful for a bike shop.

I should probably slim it down but old habits die hard and I think if the weight as a training aid.

I have to say I’m always so surprised to see people with next to nothing with them. I guess in a group it’s easier but I mostly ride solo.
Actually if in the uk on local rides maybe it’s just better to ride light and accept it’s over with any mechanical. Might be more fun!
