I’m doing my first 70.3 in July and need to get riding! I’ve been browsing FB market place for a couple months but not really sure what to look for..
I wanted to keep my budget around 1k, but what is more important to me is bang for the buck. A more expensive bike for a great deal is appealing.
I found this one, a specialized aethos. From everything I’ve read it’s a great bike, and from my other searches it looks like a great price. However! All the components are ones he put on the frame, so I don’t know how to gauge this. I got a lot to learn still about components.
Overall want input on this build for the price, if it’s overkill for me, or what other options I should be looking for. TIA!

At least in my market, 2k gets you a bike with a better groupset for sure. A *new* Canyon Endurace with Tiagra is 1.7k. Aluminium frame, but still.
Used Specialized goes for a lot more money than other brands, especially if it’s a desirable frame like the Aethos. I think it makes more sense to look at less popular brands. Giant TCRs are really good value for example, as are Merida Reactos.
