[Applause] we are Jamie and Laura a typical middle-aged couple who made the choice to retire early sell our house and car load up a tandem bicycle with gear and explore the world we have found that with the slower pace of bicycle travel we are better able to immerse ourselves
In the various environments and cultures we encounter and engage with people along the way in this video we hope to share some of what we are seeing and experiencing while out there exp ining the world canem Bik one of those rare Sunny Mornings in Ireland Carlingford we are currently riding on The Carling fth Greenway an old rail Trail look who’s being so cute he needs me he knows he needs me Well we have apparently just passed into Northern Ireland there was no sign or anything there was a little pull out that looked like there might have been one of those order Crossing checkpoints back in the day but other than that I believe we were in Northern Ireland now yay this is Victoria
Lock we’re I know 5 miles south of new Northern Ireland and the greenway they just built goes up that way alongside the canal so we will be headed over on that but we have to get up the bike across this hopefully it won’t be too hard getting around the corner
Certainly glad we have this for a Tailwind fairly new I think they scoped it out in 2020 2020 yeah okay so we got the canal on the left and the inlet on the Right [Applause] You just want it fed to you is that it just Beautiful little excitement on the trail it’s somewhat flooded for I don’t know 100 m or so and right now we’re just up to our ankles yeah and we’re about 10 m in so we’re getting our lower bags off putting them up on the bike and we hopefully we’ll be able to push
Through cuz we don’t want to turn around to go back to a road no cuz we’re lazy about halfway through the flood the first part the water got up to just about the axles of the bike so it’s a good thing we took the lower bags off
Cuz they would have been wet so far this section is only about ankle de so not so bad working our way through the flood there L back behind in the bar almost to the end apples on the side of the path apple pie kind of apple yeah the tart
But juicy tasty very good I like I’m picky I like It it’s a lovely riding day today in Northern Ireland we camped in a nice iev covered Forest last night and now we’re headed towards Belfast although we don’t want to get there till tomorrow cuz that’s when our reservation for a hotel is but we’re riding on a rainy
Day definitely a creative route this 94 bike Rout it was a heron just sitting [Applause] there in the canal we on this canal sorry for the whip blash took us a bit to get through we had to take the trailer off cuz they make the those EST turns to get in but we are at Hillsboro garden and
Castle and this is the wall Garden Area [Applause] [Applause] we are working our way into Belfast and we have another one of these wonderful Canal tow path Trails so it’s been a lovely day of riding flat little cloudy but sunny and not rainy so this has been awesome we’re in downtown belast and it is eerily Quiet up here I don’t Know we are in the Crown Liquor Saloon in Belfast an old world renovated back to his 1880s Italian design like it’s beautiful we’re in Victoria Square shopping center they have this large glass Dome at the top that gives you a pretty nice view of the city of Belfast it’s kind of cool Halloween
Night outside our Hampton Hotel in Belfast and you can see fireworks going off in the Distance apparently fireworks on Halloween is a thing here in Northern Ireland This there something a more posi the other as you notic from what I was talking about street are we are wandering through the botanic Gardens pretty much in the center belf Fest Go so this is part of one of the peace walls this is a gate area I guess that allows the road you know to pass through so that would have been heavily guarded so this is one of the many peace walls that is in Belfast that separated the Protestants
From the Catholics more or less we’re on the Protestant side I believe Catholics lived on the other side of the wall these are our first views of Scotland we arrived last night the dark beautiful we bike path at the Moment [Applause] [Laughter] [Laughter]
