  1. Last week I did a ride through Death Valley National Park. It is 190 miles with over 15,000 feet of climbing, and really difficult riding. Some of the roads that existed are completely wiped off the map by the flooding from last summer’s hurricane. Almost all the roads I cycled were closed to motorized traffic, but open to cyclists and hikers.

There was no food resupply, so I had to haul six days worth from the start. Also, there were only two water resupply points, so I had to ride with two-days worth at a stretch. That’s not too bad. In Utah on the Stone House loop I had to have three full days worth.

I only encountered people three times over the entire route. This was a fun, hard, and remote ride. The big highlight for me was encountering the large herd of pronghorn antelope on the penultimate day.
