    Handle Bar Bag / Advice


    Hi all,

    TLDR; Looking for a handle bar bag that I can buy once and last forever. with a similar size show.

    I plan to buy a new specialized because my local shop stocks them, and my current bike is too small. I am leaning towards a diverge, because wanting to do some bikepacking trips. noticed this specialized bag and really like the look but noticed 1) they suggest you buy their specialized rack with it 2) it looks amazing 3) waterproof but not? and I need a bungee cord for the lid?
    So, I’ve come to terms that I really just like the front handle bar bag look and the color red😆. What bag should I buy instead? I want it to offer waterproofing, high quality build, and can fit a pack of oreos and milk for those random less guilty treat runs.

    helmets- also I’ve been riding on trails for the past 15 years and never wore a helmet. but considering bikepacking a helmet seems like a good idea, what’s a helmet that you don’t notice as much while wearing?

    self made bags – With the price of this hobby starting to have a spooky sum, has anyone had great success with homemade bags/gear?

      Bags by bird is my favorite bag I own. Super practical, tons of attachment points and the plastic liner I use as a cutting board.

      I like a front roll bag, like Ortlieb. Great waterproofing, easy on and off. Fill with anything. I’m getting an even larger one.

      it’s just a fjallraven bag. tons of bags like this, some don’t require a specific rack.

      I used a roll top dry bag this size daily for 4 years, thick waterproof material. nothing got in there.

      I absolutely recommend DIY for bike bags. you can always fit them to your specific bike. patterns are easy to find for free, or make yourself. lots of new waterproof and water resistant fabrics these days.
