August 15 2001. Tonight, a look back at how information from viewers has helped to solve some high-profile cases. They include the sex attacker recognised by the scar on his stomach. Also a fresh appeal about missing estate agent Susie Lamplugh and who planted a bomb that left a young boy maimed and nearly blind?

  1. Thank you again for all of these.

It's about this time that they stop making the Crimewatch File series, which was excellent. I know they'd made Crimewatch Solved before, but it's hard not to see this as a sort of update of Crimewatch File, except covering a lot more cases.

I prefer Crimewatch File because they feature cases solved after lots of investigation. But these Solved episodes are well done, and have their value too- sometimes it really is as simple as one phone call.

    Interesting cases, as always.

  2. I found this whilst looking into the Stephen Menary case (torch bomb victim)…
…Prince Philip mocked an Army cadet, blinded during a Real IRA bomb attack, by poking fun at his dress sense.
As the Queen asked Stephen Menary how much he could see Philip said: "Not a lot, judging by that tie."
After he said it there was just stunned silence.
"The Queen looked like she wanted to plant Philip next to the tree. She just looked at him open mouthed. I don't think she could believe what he had said…
