Quick Tip for Repairing Ripped/Torn Gear

Hello everyone, I came across a neat and cost effective tip for repairing gear and I wanted to go ahead and share it with the community. I Took a pretty good spill a few days back when I was out riding and I unfortunately ripped a brand new pair of gloves that I had just bought on the same day (also made a minor tear on my favorite riding shorts). Obviously I was pretty bummed about both items getting torn up, but the gloves weighed much heavier on me considering they had less than one ride. I didn’t want to toss them because that would be $30 down the drain so I got to thinking on ways that I could repair them so they could be used once again. The answer to this was Shoe Goo. Shoe Goo, as I quickly found out is great for making quick reliable repairs because it’s extremely sticky, pliable, durable/waterproof and relatively cheap. I’ve used it several times on work boots and skate shoes where the soles have began to separate or holes have began to form and it has held up extremely well. So with that in mind, I decided to try it on my ripped gear and see the results it would it provide. After Shoe Gooing the torn glove and letting it cure, I took them on a ride to my local trail and tested out my repair – they held up great without any signs of separation from where the fabric was glued back together. Obviously time will tell how the gloves hold up after multiple rides and I’m not saying this is 100% permanent fix, but for now I’m pretty satisfied with how my repair panned out – I also went ahead and repaired the small tear on my shorts and that held up just as good with no signs of separation as well. Now before anyone calls me a hack or cheapskate and says “you could have bought a new pair of gloves and shorts.” You’re absolutely right, however, In my personal opinion it feels good to repurpose things before having to buy them brand new again – MTB is an expensive hobby as is so if you can find new ways to save some extra $$$ and repurpose some of your favorite gear then I think that’s a win-win.
