  1. This case really baffled me, not for any particular reason other than I've not come across a case like this before 😳 thank you for sheading light on unfamiliar cases that other crime reporters haven't covered

  2. Its very hard to 100% believe that she killed him.
Actually i dont believe any of it, not "forgetting" he raped her twice and only remembered when he tried doing it again, so she killed him and then she FORGOT she murdered him until she spoke to a physiologist about her dreams and BAM you get this story that there is zero evidence to support.
What a load of frigging rubbish.

  3. I don’t know seems to me she’s made this up to make her book more interesting an sell more copies . It’s just strange the police have never found his remains . She may of killed him an fed him to the pigs ?

  4. Very interesting. Years ago many therapists were accused of implanting false memories in their patients, but Janet seems very genuine. The mind can play tricks on us.

  5. my personal feelings… Janet did kill Fred, and it was probably THAT traumertise which blocked her brain from remembering all the details of where his body is. 42 years is a long time to push it away and forget it ever happened

  6. I'm sceptical. There is very little evidence to support repressed memories ever being restored. It is…not how the brain works.

Trauma can, in fact, be so severe that you may not remember whole or huge parts of it. But that means your mind never processed it…which means it is gone. This is not like an injury where as the brain heals it may return. It is much more like….anytime someone drinks so much that they pass out and don't remember. Youdont really get those memories back, because the state your brain was in it never transferred it to long term memory.

And likely, the "memories" that do come back are more likely to be you accepting the story that people tell you, and as you tell it to yourself you believe it and your brain accepts it as a memory.

That is why hypnotherapy that "recovers" memory is of no forensic value, it is likely the person creating false memories.

So I feel that…she either did murder him, but never forgot and is for some reason lying about it. Or she has other traumas that are at work in her brain.

Physically I'm also not convinced that she could get a grown man's body into a wheelbarrow, no matter how much heavy corn you have previously lifted. And how she shot him numerous times without any of his friends, family, or police finding any remains blood, bullet casings etc.

Edit: I was only 15 minutes in when I wrote the above. I have now found out she went to a "regression therapist" and I'm furious. There is no such thing, there is no evidence that this is a functional or vaguely helpful form of hypnotism and it absolutely CAN produce vivid and FALSE memories.

  7. Maybe he thought the relationship was more than a partnership. To say she can’t accuse him of rape because he’s gone isn’t fair. She like many others do this as trauma takes years to unravel and when people die it seems ‘safer’. If she was after the farm why bother confessing?
