Exeter Traffic Chaos, LTN & ULEZ Misery

A great argument to get everyone on scooters or at least 2 wheels. However I agree with you the stationary traffic must cause huge pollution especially diesels which are just choking themselves to death. I would crowd fund any groups that are damaging ulez equipment. I am not a criminal and I don’t advocate wanton criminal damage but the lunatics have taken over the asylum. The static traffic is the most polluting out of every thing. When travelling around the country it is everywhere not just London every tiny parish. Motorists are the most punished sector of society. Roads left to abandon repair wise but cameras and electronics everywhere. Orwell was right and I read it for o level in 1975. Its quite scary. I. Will never sell my scooter but at 64 why I have to get wet and cold at my age just to go shops or anything. How are these councils and elected members still in power. The average human in uk is pissed off with just about everything, immigration, motoring,energy, water companies, schools, police, health. Everything is broke. Someone tried to Nick a car in my daughters street in Birmingham 2 nights ago. A guy a neighbour of the victim went and challenged the scum who were using an angle grinder to cut off the steering lock. He got injured and the police said they had no one to send. They came4 hrs later. Same story in nhs. For Christ sake let’s have a change of government. They changed the poll tax they need to change motorist persecution. If no one pays the system will block, not enough courts or people to enforce. Just needs solidarity

Exeter has been grinding to a halt over the last few years and these ridiculous traffic schemes have only made it a damned sight worse.
The wife and I went into Exeter today via the Sowton Park & Ride and the traffic jam started just past Middlemoor and ended in the High Street where cars are banned.
Where do these bell ends in the council get their ideas from? They only have to look at the chaos caused by Genghis Khan's London schemes.

That whole set of roads by the bus station and the roundabout by the swimming baths you went round in the video is awful. Whoever signed that off is a right Digby. If they are going to go the whole hog, they need a little sniff of carrot. They need to make the buses and internal city train routes completely free of charge to get a bit of that traffic off the road. Exeter is blessed with many train stations, may as well make use of them.

I'm at risk of ranting about how my home town was better 30 years ago again so I'll talk about the bike.

That 350 single cylinder seems excellent for riding around that mess. Lots of grunt low down in the rev range, looked like a light and forgiving clutch and enough of a noise so people can tell something interesting is coming at them. Low centre of gravity too. There should be some space for soft panniers on there as well by the looks of it so you can get some shopping in.

I popped down to Exmouth last Saturday and there is absolutely no parking for motorcycles on the beach front any more. You have to park up on the pavement at the far eastern end of the promenade. After 2.5 hours in the saddle I was kind of hoping to park somewhere without worrying about getting a ticket. Apparently there used to be motorcycle parking down at the end but they took it away and pedestrianised it as boy racers were doing donuts down there.

Nice to meet you Mon. 25th. It took me a while to get to the roundabout at 11 mins. 47 secs in. I got on that roundabout by the church from your left. I should've perhaps followed you off the A30. I got to The Devon Yeoman late so spoilt someone's evening meal and The Chase and News viewing. Agenda 21 and 15 minutes are globalist policies. The mainstream parties adhere to and apply those policies. Sunak and Mordaunt are both World Economic Forum placemen. Voting blue or red means getting the same policies. I was impressed by the Meteor 350 loaner I had. RE ditching the distributor and dealing with dealers directly may mean used values drop.

It is not the Tories that are responsible for LTNs or ULEZ. It's the left wing Labour councils that have pushed to get LTNs and ULEZ implemented, along with 20mph speed limits. At least Sunak has seen sense and is planning to change this whole situation. The whole thing is not about reducing emissions, same as with the implementation of EV's by 2030, now 2035 and probably beyond, it's all about control! However the people have had enough, just look at the Uxbridge by election a month or two back, where Labour lost big time due to the ULEZ implementation.

The route some of the buses take leaving the new bus station adds to congestion, eg. Crediton buses go out round the big roundabout & then up Parris St. It can take 10 minutes to travel as far as John Lewis – 2 minute walk.

Hiya, I feel your pain and agree with you 100% I have the London ULEZ and The Congestion charge to deal with and it pisses me off no end !

Here's a thought: how do you get people to switch from cars to other modes of transport? Someone in a comment below said that a car or bus takes 10 minutes to complete what is a 2 minute walk. So… why not walk? How many of those in cars are there unnecessarily? It will take a little time for people to figure out that it's easier, cheaper and better to walk or get a bicycle to do a lot of these journeys.

It isn't 'undertaking' it's overtaking on the near side. Overtaking is referring to speed, not which side you pass on. Just saying.

They want us out of cars and walking or riding cycles , they are trying to do this by making all our journeys much longer much more annoying so we will be "encouraged" to walk or cycle , it's tyranny , it's communist ,it's not for the people is it ? remember labour will be much much worse not easier , the answer never ever accept it !

Your final points about not having the time because you are too busy paying the mortgage (death pledge) is exactly the problem, that's what they want all of us chasing our tails trying to keep the head above water ect, to busy to fight for the freedom which is so very rapidly slipping away in this country 😡

I lived in Exeter in the 70s and there was little congestion .Now roads are still the same but the volume of traffic has grown exponentially, so the problem is that the roads need to widen.. a lot. I agree that the one way systems are not working because that does not alter the amount of traffic.
