The ceiling of the gym in a new condo building collapsed, with two people inside, leaving residents shocked and concerned about the quality of construction. Mark McAllister reports.
Legalizing cannabis has a significant number of construction workers using than ever before. There’s no way this idiotic policy is helping improve the safety or quality of anything in society and the proof is everywhere to see, except for the wilfully blind. I know this will trigger staunch supporters but decriminalizing it has merely increased usage, contrary to what the Ottawa Clown said.
When you pay for a building permit the government is supposed to do inspections at certain stages of construction. I have seen 3 different high rise condos built with no rebar in the footings leading to the entire building being condemned
This is what happens when you lose quality, well-trained workers. Doug Ford's plans for rushing people to be certified, should make the next few years interesting.
Never expect 1st world construction with 3rd world workers. The education in the states is bad enough but the majority of workers on jobs today have a 2nd grade education with no reading or language skills.
This proves that the practice of "interim closing" where builders forcing the buyers to "occupy" before the completion of the building should stop. All the buyers should ONLY be able to move in after the completion of the whole project and passing the inspection. Why this interim closing/ occupancy is legal in Ontario and BC and still not yet challenged with a class action lawsuit is beyond me.
piece work all construction )(they want to quickly finish and get a cheque who cares you will see lot of things collapse bcz skilled worker give out contract to sub contractor ( subcontractor hire labour from agencies )this is what you get
I drive by here twice a day on my work commute. The ceiling is the least of their problems. There are at least 3 bars on St.Clair, right next to these condos, where drugs are openly sold, consumed, and firearms are present.
This doesn't seem to be a structural issue, but a hanging ceiling collapsing, due to the weight of the insulation. I don't think the intention was to cut corner, but to actually increase the insulation value, to reduce noice pollution from the gym. It seems it's the result of a mismatch ceiling system that didn't fully address the addition of weight exceeding what the ceiling was design for.
CONSTRUCTION IS SO CORRUPT ITS ALL EASTERN EUROPEANS AND MIDDLE EAST CONTRACTORS WITH THEIR CORRUPOT BUDDIES GETTING JOBS APPROVED. WATERLOO IS BAD FOR THIS PRICA GROUP IS CRIMINAL GANG FROM SLAV AREA OF EUROPE.

the ceiling does not have anchor support, it should be every 2 feet
What concerns me is why prices haven't collapsed yet.

No cannabis for tradesmen
That excuse is a cop out, ceiling was no longer under construction. The tradespeople who built it failed to build it properly.

Recorded vertically:(
It must be super easy to bribe city inspectors.
What kind of shoddy construction is that….smh
This is what happens when immigrants replace skilled workers, that's what the labor minister wants…

Has anyone checked the background of the construction workers? Are they Chinese?
This is surprising to see in North America. Who were the builders? This never should have happened…
its obvious – these devs are cutting costs for moar profits – fck us
😅😅😅
This is what happens when you do things in a rush.
new buildings doesn't worth even a penny
at least the roofs not on fire
Serves you right for buying a condo!! Good luck!!!!!😂😂😂😂
Instead of Ontario giving out prizes at the Builder Awards for new developments, they should be putting Ontario's dumbest developers on blast.
Ontario developers have to be some of the worst in North America.
I bet it wasn’t white people 😂
Cheap quality.
Stop complaining.
more of this will happen tofo condo are coming to Ontario

cheap construction sold at incredibly greediness prices.
Ceiling was built as per the drawings.. builder installed millwork 4” thick.. not the framers fault.
