  1. "it felt like coming home."
Yes, as a fellow Dutchy, it definitely all looks amazingly familiar.
Can you please do an interview with the people who design it ? would love to know how they came to their decisions, because if they independently came to the same conclusions as in the Netherlands that would surprising and very cool.

  2. 3:53 That huge 4-wheeled cargo bike is neat, it seems to go faster than you'd expect, probably due to it being a recumbent bike. The height of the cargo box makes you highly visible to cars & pedestrians (fixing that common problem with recumbent bikes), and the box's width ensures that nearby cars will remember to give you space – but doesn't actually add any extra width to the bike (it's all in the mind 😉).

I wonder if businesses would be interested in using these on-site, as an alternative to small combustion tractors for moving product around internally.
edit: If it doesn't have one – they'd probably want to add a reverse gear. Having that high front-bumper on there is already pretty good, as it reduces the tripping-hazard risk from the pedals.

  3. When I visited Malmö after being in Copenhagen I definitely felt Malmö to be better for cycling, but I was often disappointed by the width of their two-way cycle paths and the lack of conflict-resolution at intersections. There were often 2.5-metre two-way cycle paths on both side of the street, with no dedicated left turn signal for traffic across the path, and inadequate waiting area for cars to do the crossing in two stages. Many of these paths fall short as two-way paths, but would make really excellent one-way paths.

  4. Now this is more like it, if it wasn't for the lack of red bicycle paths, I could easily think this was in the Netherlands. This is much better than what was shown in the Copenhagen video.

I really like the names of cross street when going in a underpass, really helps with navigating I think. The only thing I didn't like was that it seemed like the outside bike parking was right up to the wall and too close to the entrance of that station.

  5. Could you test Strasbourg's infrastructure another time, it would be really interesting to see how you find French "bike friendly" cities.

  6. From New Zealand with love! This video covers almost all aspects of cycling and infrastructure for it. I have seen almost every video on cycling and this one is in the top 5. Congratulations!

  7. I have been there. It is a very nice city. I almost moved to there, but my wife didn't want to in the end. Oh and you mised the cycle road on the coast, it is very nice too, and you can find many public spaces there to.

  8. Too bad that there are lots of parts in Malmö where it is not safe to cycle. Not because of a lack of safe cycling infrastructure but because of a lack of safe social structure (SD vs migrants)…

  9. Looks very similar to what we have here in the Netherlands: haaientanden (shark teeth), raised crossings, underground crossing (1:53 looks even like a Vinex neighbourhood), that train station parking is all most a copy with those departure screens and double decker racks.

  10. I do hope you'll come back to London one day. We've changed things up here 🙂

That being sad. I am jelous. I had no clue Sweden would have such AN AMAZING cycle infastructure. Gosh the UK sucks.

  11. Room for improvement it seems in having 1 cycle lane colour and right of way on every roundabout. Also, the corners don’t seem designed for higher speeds, but perhaps this depends on the location (through-route or just very local stretches).

  12. Impressive! Great video. Being a Dutchie in Stockholm, I think Stockholm still has a long way to go compared to Malmö. There are very few bike lanes, facilities and services. Based on this video, Malmö looks a lot like Dutch cities.

  13. Wauw i love the twisting torso in the beginning ( skyscraper) and wauw your cyclepaths are getting better then Copenhagen i think
Great job, love to visit the city

  14. Welcome Holland! Here in Stockholm there are cycleway almost everywhere but they can't be compared with Holland!! Ours are often narrow and in a very bad condition! Sometimes they end suddenly out to the car highway…. Suspension is necessary. I have also an expensive seat post suspension http://www.cirruscycles.com

  15. I never knew Malmo was so great for cycling, as a Dutchman it looks like something I'd find here, and this city is considerably better for cycling than Copenhagen, despite Copenhagen often being called one of the best cities for cycling outside of the Netherlands

  16. I live in Malmö, it is really good for cycling since it is so flat and all bikelanes. 20 years ago there wasnt that many. Accidents happrn unfortunately. A Swedish city that probably has even more cyklists is Lund!
