Also I’m not sure what I can do to prevent my bike from getting damaged from the rain, as I have to leave it outside almost every day.

you can try to clean it and regrease it.
in general: during winter you should take extra care of the chain and moving parts. i regrease my chain 2 times a week during winter.
Do not store bike your bike outside, seriously. Find a solution.
Also chain must be lubricated regularly, there are a lot of products for that. My favorite is wax, but experience may vary. Watch some videos about it, this is important.
This chain? If mine got in to such shape I would have replaced it.
Use a tarp with bungee cords to keep cover in place. I’d definitely recommend getting a new chain and some grease with anti corrosion in it.
Just put oil on it. You cant do this once and expect it to last.

You cant just drink a pint then and then forget about it.
Oil your chain more, do you even have any oil?
WD40 is not an suitable lubricant fore your chain.
If your chain looks like that, I can only imagine what the battery connections are going to do
I think it’s fixable, but a replacement is what, $30?
Best fix- take the chain off at the quick link, soak it in degreaser, then re-lube with a good wet chain lube.
On-bike fix, add some 3-in-1 oil and cycle the chain through 30 revolutions or so. Add some more, repeat. Wipe off the excess. Ride for a week, then start lubing for a high quality, flexible chain lube like Boeshield, then apply once per week.
Lazy man method will probably throw oil on your pants, but the oil will work in as you pedal. Then just start adding Boesheild to keep the water and corrosion out.
