Cassette Repair Question

Fixing the question:

I was cleaning the drivetrain today and noticed this metal strip had come away from the cassette (Sram PG-1230 / NX). It appears to be something like a protective washer between the end of the Cassette.

There isn’t any extra friction / noise even when the chain is on the highest gear. I was thinking of just cutting off the section that has popped out but I don’t want to risk further damage if there’s something I’m missing

Does anyone know what this is and if it needs replacing?

Edit: It’s the SRAM NX, not GX

Are you sure it’s a GX cassette? GX cassettes don’t use lock rings.
