Hello, I never got the official definition of schralping but I take that to be when one is blasting a corner, the rear wheel breaks loose, cuts sideways out of the turn, and sends dirt misting kind of like carving a turn on a snowboard.

a question – what is the consensus on using the rear brake in this case? Is it bad technique/form to lock the rear brake to force a skid in order to exit a corner more quickly? Are expert riders completely off the brakes by then, and pushing past the edge of traction merely with hips, body/bike positioning and speed?

Any tips to corner like in this video? Thanks!

  1. If you use brakes it is a skid not a schralp. Think of a schralp as another name for a power slide.

Skidding is not schralping, no brakes are used. Skidding or any hard braking through a corner decreases your exit speed. General rule of thumb to increase exit speed: get your braking done before you enter and push through the apex.
