I overhauled an old threaded BB and opted to replace the previous caged bb’s with loose bb’s. All went well, but the seal rings were so stubborn and would not remain in place! I don’t know if they shrunk when cleaning (mineral spirits, degreaser) or something else (including user error), but I felt no choice but to ditch them all together.
I realize I can replace the full bb with a cartridge, but I’m hoping to reuse what I can from the original build – mostly for pride and satisfaction. Thanks for the insights!

It will get contaminated faster, leading to faster wear.
Are you riding in particularly dirty or wet conditions?
Lmao it’s a bit late now isn’t it? If you’re not willing or able to install them, then you might as well just hope for the best.
