NBD first ride out on my winter build
This bike build has been a long time coming, I started with the tyres in 2019 then slowly collected the other parts as I upgraded one bike and stripped another, getting the frame last.
Till now I’ve been riding my old Specialized Allez when the weather turned, but after a pretty sketchy descent on a very wet day decided it made little sense having less control in winter, when I had rim brakes and 25mm tyres, versus the rest of the year when I was on 28mm tyres and disc brakes.
So I’ve been building up this bike since then.
The frameset is the steel Genesis Equilibrium. The wheels are Roval C38’s that originally came with my Specialized Tarmac (budget allowing in time these would be upgraded to an All Season Hunt wheel or something similar).
It’s an incredibly comfortable ride, the frame isn’t meant to be nippy and that’s certainly clear, but it’s responsive and steady, ideal for winter roads. Steerer spacers will likely reduce in time as I dial in my fit, but nothing excessive. Very pleased with it.

This is sweet! If this is your winter build, your sunny day whip must really be sumthin’ special. Lol.
