It’s right Sam premium bikes are so expensive now. I love the GS have a few different models but last year got my first ever scooter, BMW C400GT, after 40+ years had never ever sat on a scooter. Now it’s not like riding a big bike love that but for getting around on 2 wheels it’s fantastic shops, gym anywhere in fact. It doesn’t have bigger bike performance but 90+ mph sits at 70+ two up easily. Heated grips and seat radial mounted bybre brakes with steel hoses, traction and ABS, 15” front 14” rear but motorcycle width 120 front 150 rear mean pretty good handling for what it is. I would like to see the new 1300 in the flesh not keen on the lights but as you say £25k+ my old luggage doesn’t even fit and they’ve reverted to putting a rack on but to fit the top box you have to pay £220 for a plate to put on your BMW rack to fit luggage specifically made just for that bike.
It's a bmw strom
Right Sam 😂
Let's start off by saying I love the look of your KTM and I know your dad has the infamous Triumph GS killer, seems to be a little quiet in Hinckley these days😮.
It's all about the Torque,as you know. I have had 3 GSA's and they are the best…….no argument. Stay safe !!!
Hit the nail on the head dude, I think the only Vantage, the bigger, bore bikes have they make a better sport tourer…..i like having the panny because of dealer network over here, and the adaptive ride height feature, now all the other brands have some sort of feature like that….
Don’t put all the pointless, bling engine,/timing cases on, then it ain’t that bad at all. I do agree, about getting away from all the pointless gadgets, Heated grips, cruise control is all, I require..fuk, the lane change, warning collision warning bollocks if ya need that, probably best to stop riding.
Hi Sam, great vlog, it's nice to hear your opinions on the general state of the market. I agree, bikes have become disproportionately more expensive compared to most people's income, making them unaffordable for many. Those that can afford them have to justify the cost of having a continually depreciating asset that spends most of the time in the garage. I go for used bikes that cost less, but even they are quite expensive these days, depending upon what you have.
Proverbial “nail on the head”, nice one !!! Buy a ticket for Bruce’s night, or I’ll set the boys on you 😂😂😂
To be honest if I could of taken a Royal Enfield Interceptor over the Alps instead of the GS with all the weight and luggage I would of done in a heart beat. So much more fun and a lot cheaper to sort if you kiss the tarmac. Only downside is I look like an ape on them. Give one a try it might surprise you.
👌👌👍👍 talking a lot off sense young man
Love a proper old school vlog sometimes mate 👍🏼
The new gs looks better than the 1250 but you know it’s KTM all the way 😎
Are you coming to the KTM meet next weekend then? Youve been relegated to the slow group this time though 🤣👍🏼
Oh and I’m 6’4” so making bikes smaller is a bad thing 🤣
I had two GSs in a row then got an R9T during lockdown and couldn’t be happier with it (apart from mud sprayed up my back with the slightest drop of rain). The GS had car like practicality, fast, comfortable etc etc but there’s no way I could afford the same again now, or insure one in London. I test rode a multistrada V4 recently which was phenomenal and then found it would be £24k. Will just keep my R9T and ride it until I can’t any more. Enjoyed the vlog and love that monkey. Cheers
You summed up the video at 8:47 Sam, all the issues in the biking world with how things aren't what they were or always wanting "one thing more" than others…a 9bhp Monkey is the epitome of what you want from biking – find what you like and what makes you smile, and that's all to which you should aspire. If that's a 2.5 year old KTM, get that. If you don't like the new BMW and prefer the old one, that's fine…get (or keep) the old one.
I know the limitations and shortcomings of my Guzzi, and I just don't care cos I love it 🤷🏻♂️😁
I love bikes and have alway had pretty much , the fastest most powerful stuff available , over a 40 year period , if it wasn’t for pcp the manufactures would sell naf all , pcp means you can buy twice the bike you couldn’t afford , manufactures know this , so are now charging more money , because they know 85 % of sales are pcp , Ive big bikes , and monkeys , groms and benellis , I don’t think I’ll buy a new big bike again , I’d be interested in the diavel v4 , but £24k +6k for an exhaust , no it’s not happening , I’m starting to get bored of stupid power , if I want fun mini bikes is where it’s at , it’s refreshing to ride the nuts off them do 100 miles a squeeze £4 of fuel in , 🏍🏍👍👍
New GS ? I hadn't noticed 🤔 🫢🫢🤣🤣 my god its everywhere😂 have to see one in person but pics look good, would I buy one 🤔 🤔
Roadskin gear looks 👌
Monkey sounds great👌
Great vlog
Take care, stay safe 👍 🏍 👌
I think the debate around the new GS just highlights how conservative us bikers are. Personally, I like the changes to it's appearance – it was well overdue. Much as I like mine, I sometimes resent having paid so much for something with such an ugly beak. Kudos to you for signposting to a fellow vlogger (@UsernameKate). Nice to see cooperation rather than competition.
Couldnt agree more about the bike market!
Ive got brought a 73plate Monkey and ive enjoyed riding that more than any bike ive owned (and I love my XR as much as you do your KTM) like you say 9hp but hours of fun and smiles!
Fyi Ive also put s new exhaust of it and sounds awesome!! 👍🏻 great vid as always!
Your spot on , 20k for a bike is ridiculous. My V strom new at 10k was a bargain. I still love riding my old 600 hornet , just as much fun.
I am currently saving to buy an RS. By the time I'm ready, they will have a 1300 RS😂 Then I'll say to myself, well gotta go with the bigger engine right?
Great vlog. I really like the look of the new GS. The adventure will be interesting when it's released.
I bought a new GS in 2018 and threw everything at it. It cost £18k which was eyewatering. I specced a new 1300 up on the configurator with the same stuff and it was £24.5k. Ok, it's now got radar cruise control and heated seats, but that is a huge increase for a fully specced up GS. My 1290 SAS was £21k earlier this year with everything added. KTM then gave £2k back, so £19k.
Your right about the costs becoming prohibitive these days. I lost £8k on the GS in 3 years and £8k on the KTM 1290 GT in 1.5 years, so I will be running my SAS into the ground as the money loss is getting silly.
For a guy like me who has been riding for 54 years I think all modern bikes are too much. Guys crying about wind buffering need a bigger screen.
.bla bla bla
I like bikes to be simple I just think it's more fun.
Shopping now. Just left looking at Adventure S. USD 19400 without tech pack or extras. Found a V4S used with 1500 miles for $22000 with everything, plus luggage and crash bars. New BMW every time I spec it out I’m sitting at 25000-26000 on configurator with no luggage or crash protection. New Ducati out the door would be around 30k. V4s seems like deal, but range seems limiting so may be KTM trying to decide.
