As I have become more of a trail-xcish rider, I’m going to start using clipless pedals instead of flat.

Already purchased a BOA 5 10s clipless shoes (https://www.adidas.com/us/five-ten-kestrel-pro-boa-shoes/BC0635.html) and now I’m in the hunt for the pedals, which I guess will be Crankbrother.

Checking the website, I have noticed they released a Mallet Trail to fill the gap between XC and Enduro, but reading some sites, does it look like those Trail pedals are just awful and better to get the Enduro?

Does anyone have experience with the Trail? How good or bad are they?

  1. The mallet trails don’t support you as much as the mallet enduros. They will probably feel the same but the support will be different.

The mallet enduros will feel more like a flat pedal especially with soft sole shoes.
the mallet trails will feel less like flat pedals as there is less of a platform to support your foot.

I ride the mallet enduros with pretty stiff sole shoes but I do feel the support quite a bit , especially through landings and high speed berms and when pumping .

  2. I prefer my Mallet E. SPD over crankbrother is how I’ve always been but I finally gave the Mallet E a chance after sitting in box for years and love the support under my foot. They are on my 120mm bike but I don’t think I’d go for a more XC oriented pedal.
