I recently bought a set of Shimano SL-M315 3×8 shifters. I must note that I’m fairly new to all this. While setting these new shifters up I’ve encountered some problems which this video is serves as evidence of. While at first the triggers when downshifting would retract properly, now it seems like the spring isn’t functioning properly. *This only applies to the right shifter.

I’ve tested it with/without shifting cable, but I received similar results. I searched up what potential problems could’ve caused this, but the results catered more towards old shifters or ones that’ve been more used.

How do I fix this? Is this even fixable?

  1. 1) Either the lever is bent or the internals of the shifter were damaged upon arrival. 2) Don’t shift without pedaling. If you do it more than one gear, you can strain the derailleur or the chain. Just for future reference.

Is it not the shift lever just getting caught on the brake lever clamp? That’s something we’ve run into somewhat frequently on lower price pint brake levers.
