I have a 2016 Émonda s as well. It came with 23mm tires. Years ago, I upgraded to 25mm and was told that’s the largest I could go on that frame. It’s not a project one but I believe the frames were all very similar for that year

  2. Unfortunately rim brake bikes don’t have the clearance that disk have by default. You could try 28 road tires but I’d expect them to be too close. For gravel unfortunately this is not the bike to go with. Even with stock 32’s gravel at Cecil Webb sucked.

Woah be careful, the emonda was in no way designed to go off road. You might crack your frame. 25mm tires are the max you can put on there.

  4. Biggest limiting factor on rim brake bikes is the space for tire to fit in caliper. Most rim brake bikes max out at a 25 mm tire.

The bigger tire trend really came about as we moved to disc brakes which removed the brake caliper as a limiting factor.
