You can cycle from Vauxhall in south London to Rotherhithe in south east London entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.
The route is 7.2km long (4.3 miles) and makes use Cycleway 5, Cycleway 4, Cycleway 4, and various LTNs in Southwark and Lambeth.

we have had 3 weeks of great weather, 2 weeks in june and 1 week in september, the rest has been crap.
Yes, do rank the boroughs, please! < 3
(…maybe using some kind of colour-coded map so us non-locals can follow? Cheers from Stockholm!)
LTN's work, who'd have thought!
I think the Kings's Stairs in question are the ones by the side of the Angel pub that's on the left just before you turn off towards King's Stairs Garden. On the right just before that turn are the remains of the King Edward III manor house: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Edward_III_manor_house
Great channel, love your videos and commentaries, really useful and informative. I used to live and work in London and moved away to Cornwall in 2003, so seeing how the infrastructure has almost unrecognisably changed in that time is fascinating. Are there any routes in North London, East Finchley / Finchley Central / Totteridge / Barnet etc? We lived in Potters Bar for a couple of years and got pretty familiar with those areas, as my girlfriend (now wife) used to teach at Frith Manor school in Lullington Garthβ¦ I really wish Cornwall had a better protected cycling structure and network, I love the cycling here but some of the busier commuters routes (to Truro for example) just arenβt that safe at rush hour! Keep up the great work!
4:16 the brilliant Lower Marsh Market to your left. A favourite for this area, with many different food vendors π
Great video!! It's good to see that local councils around London are making good progress, despite Sunak's plans against such drastic changes. Also I'd love to hear your London borough cycling rankings!!
That's a really handy route and also super nice to see that 2022 summer again. Quietway 5 is one of my all time favourites so great to see new options coming off it. Agree that a borough rankings would be really handy… maybe GLA has a tracker available via FOI?
Your idea to rank the boroughs is an excellent one. Please do a video for it.
And it was lovely to remember what sunny weather was like via this video.
What a pleasant ride! Thank you Jon π
6:44 please do! We know Waltham Forest would be first. Rest would be informative and interesting to know.
I love your videos! As a suggestion perhaps add a mini-map of our progress of the route in a corner of the video, some people might find it useful!<3
I would love to see you do the rankings for bike routes in London as you mentioned in the video!!
β‘ A bunch of us were skatin around part of that area last night, looks pretty amazin at night β‘
A cyclist goin the wrong way down a cycle lane came outta nowhere and only just missed me π± in almost pitch black.
That's a really is nice cycle route!
I'd love to see more like this… perhaps do a compilation of the your favourite and/or most scenic cycle routes from point A's to point B's including videos like this one. You're going to have so much fun with this channel.
Absolutely loved this! You continue to fill in huge gaps in my memory of London, and now I have a 'feel' for areas I never got to explore in my sojourns back there. Your nod to history as well as fascinating routes is greatly appreciated. Thank You!
Some of the comments below got me searching for the history of "The King's Stairs", which then led to other sites, and some incredibly fascinating web-pages. I had to 'come up for air' from this one:
Google "a london inheritance bermondsey wall" some incredible historical pics alongside today. And vast amounts of links to other history and examination of the area.
These aren't just bike rides Jon takes us on. These are sight-seeing gateways to history as well.
Excellent vid as always, and yes please to ranking boroughs.
Another great informative video, I love the history bits and borough rankings would be very interesting!
I would be interested in the score card of boroughs
I would definitely be interested in ranking boroughs. I have a feeling I know what the last ones would be thoughβ¦.. π
You could also do a video about what you want to see London like in the short term and long term for cycling.
Question about the map of cycle routes and 20mph zones which you use. How can we contact the creator as there's some missing cycle paths i have spotted around New Southgate and Oakwood and it would be a shame if they spoilt the chance for one of your videos. I appreciate you may not be able to pass on contact info.
Many thanks Jon, great video! I cycle the Vauxhall to London Bridge section of this route pretty much every day. I tend to agree that the advance filters for Cyclists at the Lambeth Noth & Waterloo Rd Junctions aren't great. Interested to know what option you would advocate in preference to this design. Imo there are a series of junctions with N-S crossings between Blackfriars Bridge Rd and Borough High Street where priorities could/should be updated
Another excellent video.π
Great route! ππ΄ββοΈπ΄ββοΈ
