It’s a crapshoot, especially for troublesome tire/rim combos. Taping is the most problematic in the process. I try to get down in the valley more than you did. But your width seems good.
    Good luck.

  2. I prefer smooth. Apply with tension and a side to side wiggle….. But as long as it’s wall to wall it should work. I guess if your worried about it get them to complete the job by installing the tyre and sealant. Keeps the blame off you if it turns tits up.

I set up my wheels like this before and it worked fine. I’m hella bad at taping these.

Put a tube in, pump it up to max pressure, and let it sit overnight. Should help.

  4. Overlap and everything looks decent . Like it was said. Put a tube in them overnight to press the tape into the rim then you will be golden

    Eh, yes, but shoddily applied.

If the wrinkly middle bothers you, get a hair dryer or heat gun, heat the tape, and thumb smooth it out.

When I tape rims, I ensure tension on the tape, and I smooth the tape with heavy pressure, ala the thumb into the rim bed valley. Smooth tight and secure.

  6. Not sure it is necessary, but I usually mount tire WITH inner tube, inflate to max psi overnight. Next day take out tube and set up tubeless. Tape will be perfect.

  7. I don’t know if there’s a strong relationship between the look of the tape and the function, but I press my thumb down in the center of the rim as I tape to get it flat.

This is also one of the reasons I don’t really go to shops anymore. Some are great, but a lot of shapes don’t have the time or the interest in doing work as meticulous as I’ll do myself.

  8. This is ok. However, This is why I prefer the Gorilla tape (or different brand with similiar structure) since it stretches a bit and the result is much smoother.
Next time you can try it, if you want. Really recommend.

  9. This is why I use a heat gun, you never have it turn out that way and the glue sticks a lot better.
Learned from a shop that also sells dentist bikes.
