  1. I just bought this bike last weekend, it was sold as-is for $150 and I have been pleased to find that it is 100% stock (other than the saddle). Even the tires have Univega branding, along with a lot of side wall splits…

I found a scan of the 1983 Univega catalog, and there were three tiers in this model, this sport model being the low end, and the only lugged option.

And, that’s what I find interesting… The welded frames were in the upper two tiers, and the lugged frame was the lower price point. Why is that, I wonder? I think lugged makes it much cooler, and influences the feel of how a frame either transmits or smooths out vibration… a quality I have heard referred to as “planing.”

My plan is a full overhaul, plus a new paint job. Just gotta figure out a color scheme….

Oh, she’s gonna clean up ***nice.***

Don’t repaint it until you’ve stripped and cleaned it. With some Meguiar’s Scratch-X you can probably get that paint glossy like new and it’ll look great.

  3. I’m 68. Rode a lot in the 80’s. I have one of these hanging in my garage that I bought new in 82. It’s hanging next to my old Colnago Mexico, also from early 80’s. I always wondered if they were worth anything.
