Even though he was driving slowly, he appeared that he wasn’t going to stop and was going to hit me. He was driving two tonnes of metal, I was a 100kg cyclist. This was not a small infraction.
Rule 172 of the Highway Code:
The approach to a junction may have a ‘Give Way’ sign or a triangle marked on the road. You MUST give way to traffic on the main road when emerging from a junction with broken white lines across the road.
The police considered this a lapse of judgement by the driver, so they were sent a warning letter. Any future allegations may result in prosecution if the manner of their driving does not improve.
The problem is that lapses in judgement kill people when it involves two tons of metal.
